a returner is usually going to be a little further back if possible as it is easier to catch going forward than backward. Meggett just blew that play, there's no reason that ball should have gotten behind him after the bounce.
the butt fumble was and still is overrated. Was it any worse than the little screen pass to Vereen that the Jets Defense let him basically have an easy stroll 80+ yards to the end zone RIGHT before it? No, not really. It was just another shit play in a shit game of a shit season. It's not like the Jets had any hope that year and blew it on that silly follie. They had serious issues all season. It pales in comparison to the fake spike even, where for the first time in awhile they were knocking on the door of the division and blew it. The butt fumble didn't even cost them that game. They lose by 4 touchdowns even without it. Silly play, overrated. It's not even the worst of Sanchez turnovers even. That guy was a turnover machine - for some reason this one gets all the play..
Jets 9ers. Nagle. Massive yardage. Garrison hearst 99 yd return in OT. A signal that the era was over before it started. But thats a close second. Worst jets game ever.... Last year pre season. Vagiants. Playoff winning QB, gets crushed in 4th qtr..we get f@@@ed sideways...indefinitely.
I think you are correct the butt fumble game is more silly than a game that should make anyone pissed off. But the main reason I want to reply is I think the butt fumble combines good video with a circus like absurdity that, for many, sealed the fate of a negative image of Sanchez. it became a bridge too far he never returned over from. But by then imo he had already turned the ball over so many times, how could anyone get ripping pissed off by another one, no matter how freaky? I guess in certain settings it was embarassing, but I just shook my head.
That 9ers game was the first game of '98 and its was Glenn Foley who was the starter. The end of his "era" paved the way for the best year a Jets QB has had since Namath. Of course, given your other opinion, its clear that facts and reality play little role in how you form them. And what hole have you been hiding in?
The Raven game also annoyed me cause we were up 14-0 on the 'greatest defense ever' running the no-huddle (which was money for us all year), they didn't know what to do with it - and then our genius staff STOPPED running the no-huddle and we lost all the momentum since there was no shot we were beating them with a conventional offense. Of course the Jermaine Lewis debacle didn't help. And that game wouldn't have even mattered if we didn't lose to a pathetic Lions team at home with Hall blowing a 35-yard FG in a 10-7 loss the week before.
we were up 14-0 and near midfield and vinny fumbled a snap I believe. I think that play changed everything. The game came down to 3-4 plays- the fumble I mentioned the 2 PR TDs the Vinny INT at the end of the half which was at least a 10 pt swing.
Yeah I'm bothered by other losses too, but when you talk about losses that just pissed me off, these jumped to mind. Not sure why I remember these, but I do.
I apologize if this game was already mentioned giving that I did not read every post in the thread. One game I remember was the opening game of the 2011 season vs the Ravens when Sanchez threw for like 75 yards and Keller ran out of bounds 2 yards short of the marker on 4th down. That game was brutal to watch, epecially since the Jets had so many opportunities but only came away with field goals
Yes, Foley, not Nagle. Moved to Ohio, and hav Been hiding where it's round on both ends and hi in the middle... But yes Nagle.. (Junc..see above)
P.S....yes, Vinny had a great year...bring me back, if you would be so kind...to 1999... Achilles last stand...
That's the game for me. I just get the same sick feeling every time I think of that game. Vinny was far from the only Jet lost to injury that day either. We lost like 8 players for an extended time frame. Our dream season was trampled on in one half of football. And of course it had to be against the Pats.
Yeah I ment the whole game not just that play, I should have been specific. For me it was more about the massive family shit talk I had to eat with my turkey and stuffing.
the question was: What game hurt the most. NO? For me it was the Broncos game. 10-0 lead in the 3rd., and I had been picked for SB tix. Had the flight ready, had the ticket voucher ready, had the cash. Never packed a single piece of clothing because I was going to Florida and didn`t want to jinx the Jets. Underwear and a t-shirt would`ve been enough imo. But those dreams were shattered, just like they will continue to be shattered for generations to come. I`m still pissed off. I hate the Jets for letting that happen because we would have destroyed the Falcons and raised our second Lombardi. Instead, here we are arguing over stupid bullshit because this team sucks ass for the last 45 years. On a side note: I HATE TYPING!!!!
Ohio? What the fuck? Why? Your wife leave you? Feds put you into witness protection? Why the fuck does one move to ohio for fucks sake?
