I found this article online and thought it was an interesting read especially from the Saints perspective. http://www.canalstreetchronicles.com/2014/7/9/5875253/new-orleans-saints-2013-new-york-jets#
We won that game because at a level of physicality on both sides of the ball that the Saints weren't prepared for. Our D-line and running game punched them in the mouth.
I was at this game, we dominated the Saints at the LOS. This game however shows how much more fire-power we need on O. 6 point win could have been a 2 score comfortable win if we had some more weapons on the outside. It's tough to win these games 10+ times.
The Jets stick to punishing football and we win a lot of games. It makes since for us to run with all the talent in our backfield. Geno and Vick both have the ability to run and it should be a viable threat anytime protection is breaking down or a defense is cheating extra players in the secondary. The Saints game last year was one of the most fun games for Jets fans to watch. We punished on the ground and in the trenches. Pound, pound, pound, play action dagger.
Not many teams like the Saints out there. We face the Packers (a team w/ a better QB and run game). We also face the Broncos. And you know we see the Patriots twice. We have to improve to beat teams like those. It will be hard to win 10 games playing the way we did last season. Offense needs to improve. Playing good defense and having a good running game isn't enough - we need a QB to make plays on 3rd down. 2nd year Sanchez, we had to count on him to make timely plays late in games to win. That includes finesse teams like the Texans.
"This game is...the second most dominated the Saints were throughout the entire 2013 season, second only to the first matchup against Seattle. The 26-20 score doesn't adequately indicate the manhandling nature of the physical style that the Jets employed" "The Jets figured this out earlier in the season than anyone" "Remember the stock quotes that I used earlier to describe how teams say they'll win games on defense? "We'll hold our assignments and make the quarterback make hard decisions?" Yeah, the Jets did that. All game." Love it
