most RB's aren't getting long deals anyhow. I do wonder what a guy like Powell would make in a new deal though. maybe a couple million a year, for 2 years maybe 3 max? I picture him taking up a backup role somewhere else and being a damn good one, he may only be an average at best feature back but if you need a guy to take the edge off another you won't get much better than a guy like Powell. anyway, on topic, seeing as how the coaches have said the hottest player in any given week will get the ball the most its nearly impossible to accurately tell right now. but theres been plenty of logical guesses here based on skill set, CJ should get more on field time due to being a better receiver, Ivory might get more time if the clock needs winding down, etc. the Jets have done well to acquire the best talent they can to to bolster the running game, now its just a matter of playing this by ear.
I think alot of people (CJ doubters) forgot how explosive this guy really is. I know people say RB's dont last long and what not but he's almost NEVER hurt, missed one game in his rookie year and maybe one more after that up until now. He should still have more than enough left in the tank hes only turning 27 soon to be 28. Yeah he ran alot but its not like he's been abused and washed up. His one "off year" where he barely cracked 1000 yrds rushing was also his best year rcving he had about 500 yrds receiving. 1,500 yards on an "off year" thats crazy. Maybe he just set his own bar way too high with that Madden-like 2009 season he had, but he is highly productive every year. Now that he will be a role player and not the only hope for this offense like he was in Tennessee i expect him to go nuts this year.
I couldn't agree more with this post. It's not an either or debate here... It's both. They make each other better by forcing defenses to account for both running (and in CJ's case receiving ) styles. These guys have shown they can carry a full load and if the o line holds up they are both poised for monster years. As I've said before, we haven't had this much of a home threat at RB with soft hands since LT and we are arguably getting CJ2k much closer to his prime. All the doubters watch out
No mention of the kid Richardson, we do have the four horsemen. Interested in what this kid will bring to the table.
Look at the per carry numbers. He's been 4.0 YPC or worse 2 of the last 3 years, including 3.9 last season. There's a reason some think he's done. He's gotten 250+ carries every year in his career, and his numbers aren't what they once were with those carries. Knee surgery doesn't help, particularly for a guy whose game is speed. He's near the end of the line most likely. The hope is that with less carries he'll be more effective. We'll see. I think the Jets can squeeze a year or two out of him, which is all that's necessary. He's a player where a change of scenery will do some good.
He was also the focal point of any defense given how awful his qb play along with a defense that didn't keep them in games. Don't think you can look at the stats in isolation
And our QB situation is any better? It's arguably worse. And sorry to burst your bubble but the Titans D was not awful, they only gave up less than 50 yards more than ours did last year.
As long as he's healthy then CJ should be the opening day starter. Again I want to see Ivory stay healthy for a full 16 game season, or at least the large majority of it. If he can then Ivory will be a nice complement in the backfield. CJ is still in his prime (towards the end of it) and I'd like to see what he's got left.
in a perfect world johnson would get early touches and when we have a lead use ivory to pound and kill the clock to tire out the d.
Yeah, that's in a perfect world where the other team doesn't know you're running the ball. Hopefully Geno Smith takes more than 16% of his snaps from under center this year.
When the Jets are in the WCO Johnson will get more carries. When they're grounding and pounding Ivory will get more carries. Geno and Vick have more to do with who will get the most carries than anything else. If they can make the WCO work well then Johnson, otherwise Ivory.
I don't care, we just need the ground & pound... Never open up the passing game if we dont run the ball like we used to... " My favorite Martin " Sent from my Nokia Lumia 928 - Windows Phone 8.1 using Tapatalk
The game that CJ2k breaks out a >20 yard TD will put defenses on notices. He's a mismatch for lbs in the flat and he can even run a wheel route. It's not crazy to say that with his speed and hands, he has the potential to open up this offense more than anyone else we have on the roster except Hill. At a minimum he's a safety valve for Geno.
I was under the impression that neither Ivory nor Johnson are very serious pass-catching threats. Just from what i had been reading. No?
Ivory can't catch, but CJ can. Last year he caught about 42 balls for about 350 yards, which is significant- more catches than David Nelson had, though fewer yards.
20+ Yard Runs Last Year Ivory - 8 C. Johnson - 5 Ivory will get slightly more carries, definitely more on early downs and late in the game. Johnson will get the ball early in the game and as 3rd down back.
You can't use this statistic. That is highly dependent on the offensive line. While our offensive line was bad, the Titans offensive line was pretty terrible.
Ours was ranked #32 in the league for run blocking last year, though. With decent run blocking, we could have the top running game in the league this year, but I don't know if the run blocking will improve enough.
How did the Jets have the sixth best running attack with an OL that was "ranked" 32nd??? Where did you get that stat from?
