last season I thought 2 wins---- as on a high as the season ended 8-8 it turns out if jets one one more afc game jets would be the wild card over sd based on 4th tie breaker record over common opponents. that would have been great I then review the season as free agency started about 10 weeks later and jets were about 30-40m under the cap fa is where teams fill holes with vets-who idzik knows can play up to nfl standards----draft is always a crap shoot ---don't know if guys who played at ames iowa against fair opposition can step in and be good starters right away ---with jets picking 18 don't know if any guys picked ahead of the jets on all 7th round would take guys that jets wanted with all that said I was disappointed that iszik didn't spend more money to get us drc and a few ol to shore us up----- I hear many guys here didn't like tanny making trades to fill the holes-----a 5th rounder for farve was very good---to bad farve had bad shoulder and couldn't keep us in the afc east lead-----getting holmes also for a 5th was very good move till that bad injury in 2012----and getting cro for a 2nd rounder also was a good trade till he got injured in 2012-----idzik did great trade last year giving up a 5th for ivory looking at last season it became confusing as we got bombed-----giving up lots of points to cincy(49) and over 35 to ten----we need help in secondary-----I hope he pulls off a trade for cb-----offense should be much improved with decker Johnson breno and vick-----just read milliner is out of shape---Patterson has missed many games with injuries----so we need help back there and facing cincy again he can torch us----hope that we can score some points to keep us competitive----we were also bombed by buff and Miami----our offense and defense were ng the worst would be two wins with the hope we can unseat the pats-----but need guys brought in at cb to stay with their receivers and have vick come to the rescue lots of words and its hard typing with one finger any comments and please keep them clean
I try to look at things realistically, 2 wins wasn't realistic year ago. I thought 6-7 wins and they exceeded. I am expecting 8-10 wins this year. Hopefully they exceed again.
Your 2 wins expectation was not realistic at all. I thought Jets would be 7-9 win team and they came at 8-8 This year I am expecting 8-10 wins. I hope they exceed this.
I still think this team is in its infancy so I'm going with 7wins and will consider that total a decent season. I started looking at 2015 and beyond back in 2013 and because of that, I've had no expectations or delusions regarding the win total or the talent level. I'm expecting better play than last season but then again, that's really not saying much as relative to the elites of the league, we're not there yet. So, whatever happens this year happens and I'll keep my eye on 2015 and beyond before I have any real expectations.
I just don't see 7-9 or worse as a likely result for this team. They'd need a horrible injury run to have that kind of season. Something similar to 2005, with most of the OL hurt and out of position by mid-season. Michael Vick was a huge insurance policy for this team. He pays off if Geno is not ready to go or if Geno gets hurt and he precludes a really bad result off of either of those circumstances. The roster is better in a bunch of other places also but QB was where this team was capped last year and it isn't the cap for 2014.
Its way too early to tell which teams are have improved and which are on the decline and add injuries to the mix and its a crap shoot at best. Last year the schedule gave a lot of us hope for a 7 win year and if really lucky 8-9. This year the team could be much improved and still have a worse record. Arguably 8 of the 1st 10 games are very difficult (Oakland and Buffalo being the exception). Winning in GB and KC is tough anytime and NE on the road 4 days after playing Denver is not doing the Jets any favors with the schedule makers. Being optimistic I'd give the Jets wins against Oak, Chi, Det, SD and Buf. That gets them to 5-5 at the bye. Of the final 6 NE is, on paper, the only tough game. I have no idea what to expect from Miami but if you assume they split with Miami because they rarely seem to sweep with them, lose to NE and win the rest they're at 9-7. With a few breaks here and there 10 wins, if things don't go well then 6. If I'd have to wager I'd go with 8, the Jets are just inconsistent enough to something great like beating GB on the road then lose to both Chi and Det at home. I hope I'm wrong and they win 11 and the division but right now it has an 8-8 feel to the season. Even though the first 10 games are tough I do like that most aren't against physical teams (only the Steelers were ranked in the top 15 in D last year -yds /g), the Jets seem to do well against teams that don't have smash mouth D type teams so they could surprise us all and come into the break 7-3, I expect 4-6 or 5-5 but I'd be thrilled at 7-3.
I picked 10-6 last year. This year it will be 7-9. We will not win this division until we get an offense to match the effort given by our D.
The way I see it the difference between 10-6 or 8-8, 7-9 is going to be like it always is. Divisional games! Seems like every year were 3-3 in the division. If we go out there and sweep the Fins and Bills well earn a playoff spot. If not it's gonna be tough.
I always expect the worst, and the Jets still haven`t failed me yet since 1969. It`ll be 100 years before the Jets win another championship. Almost halfway there now. I`ll be long gone by then and I don`t hold onto hope for sports games anyway. However, I did hold onto hope for a Jets Stadium of their OWN to play in. Even that hope was shattered by this franchise.
Wouldn't they have failed you every year? The worst is going 0-16 and that has not happened yet. I guess the actual worst would be the team being sold and then leaving NY. That hasn't happened either.
I look at this team and it's future far differently than ever before. I see a young group of players and a management philosophy that is building a strong foundation for a long term sustained winner. This team will continue to improve on both sides of the ball. I think we will be much more competitive this year. How that translates to wins is a totally different matter and it depends on many factors, not the least of which is how quickly all the new faces jell as a cohesive squad. The two biggest differentiating factors between a playoff season or not will be the performance of our starting QB and the play of our secondary. With the addition of Vick IMHO we have strengthened the first concern significantly if Geno falters. Our running game will be strong and hopefully our receiving core will also be a big plus. If the secondary exceeds our current expectations be prepared for a playoff run, if not we know where the next draft priority will be. My guess is a 10-6 or 9-7'season.
8 t0 11 is probably the right range for wins for the Jets at this point. If they don't get lucky they're in year two of the rebuild with a bunch of pieces in place and more to fill and probably go 8-8 with 2015 the big target year. If they get a bit lucky they could have a special season. It will take that though, they'll need a bit of luck on top of the two years of building so far. If Geno comes through that's all the luck they'll need.
Geno stepping it up will determine whether we are a playoff team this year, and a SB contender in 2015-16.
Imo it's still too early to predict the season record. There's still a hole at cb. It's not clear who the starting OG's will be on opening day, either. Whether we will see a truly upgraded group of wideouts, too. But the main thing is whether either Smith shows up substantially improved, or whether if not they have the willingness to start Vick. On that last point, I am afraid to say the tea leaves are less than promising.
Have not seen this team in Camp yet and not even a first preseason game. How the heck can I make a prediction. So much more can happen from today's date until the first game in September. Other players getting cut, hopefully no one get hurt, Lots of stuff can happen. I just feel this team grew a little from last year,, Learned a little about losing and how good it felt to win. With the draft and the FA we picked up I think were a better team
Unfortunately, I think this year to be a double digit win team our rookies HAVE to contribute. Will Pryor be the center field presence we have needed? Are we going to find another WR to compliment Decker. Whether it is Hill or one of these rookies. How about Amaro is he just a giant WR? Or have we have our Gronk. Too many questions, but I doubt we do worse than 7-9
No matter if we have 2 wins or 4 wins or 6 wins or 8 wins or 10 wins or 12 wins it does not matter if we do not win the SB. The ONLY thing that matter is becoming SB champs at the end of the 2014 season or it just becomes the 46th straight year that the NYJs will be losers no matter if U or anyone else wishes to not accept that fact . Just think at the end of the season it will be 46 years of failure for us if we are not holding the VLT then. 16 years under bird brain Woody & 30 years under Hess.
Well thats it lol. I'm aware we are 46+ yrs losing and counting but I have to ignore you; my lord you make this board so depressing; great use of time there mate
Well I am only stating the facts & if U read my post carefully it says when we are again losers this season it will be our 46th straight year of winning nothing. Just think in only 4 short seasons after this one we will hit the 50th year of ineptness. If U think anything less then that then I feel sorry for U as you are totally deluding yourself to the true real facts
