All fair points, but from a legal standpoint, what Vick did was worse, since it involved actual criminality, just like Mike Goodson. Based on his reported actions, Incognito is a terrible person, but he wasn't alone in exhibiting the behavior he's being punished for. Other Dolphin players, and even assistant coaches, also participated. Which in no way exonerates him; but it does show that he wasn't solely responsible for Martin's treatment. The NFL is going to be hard pressed to deny him his livelihood; given some of the recidivist drug offenders and other offenders they've routinely reinstated. I'm not certain I'd want him as a Jet; but he may end up landing with some team at some point.
this guy needs to worry about more things than football right now. Dude seems like a mental case. Jets should ignore him.
Well, that depends upon one's definition of a bargain. Would he be a bargain, when he becomes a cancer in the locker room and causes dissension? Would he be a bargain when controversy arises and the circus returns? You get what you pay for. 3-4 years ago is ancient history in the NFL. Even if every starter on the OL went down with a season-ending injury, I don't think Idzik would even consider that POS, and I would hope he wouldn't.
Incognito the player would be a great 1 year stopgap but his off the field issues are too much. Its not worth the potential locker room trouble and trouble with the media.
Whether I might otherwise consider him, since I think there's a decent chance of a Qb controversy this year, no way the FO adds to that with someone like RI.
Legally, what Vick did was much worse, for sure. But Incognito is not reformed, whereas Vick is, and also QBs are just more valuable and therefore get more slack. Its easier to replace a proven guard than a proven QB. The Dolphins are pretty dysfunctional to have allowed or maybe even encouraged the Incognito stuff to happen. Supposedly their former GM said that Martin should just punch Incognito to resolve the bullying- if he really said that, it's shocking. Supposedly the coaches wanted Incognito to "toughen up" Martin by bullying him- which is also ridiculous if true. A good coach does not allow hazing to reach extreme levels or to get to a point where it affects players in a major way. If there's going to be hazing, it should be limited to embarrassing stuff- nothing humiliating or dehumanizing. The Steelers simply don't allow hazing, and which is the best approach. Anyway, the Jets don't need his nonsense in the locker room. Maybe another team will take a chance on him, but I kind of have my doubts, because he is basically unrepentant for his racist tirade and his horrible locker room behavior. He was seen smashing his car in frustration, which also indicates his rage problems and his continuing poor ability to control himself. He needs to spend the year away from football, quit drinking, fully apologize and take responsibility for what he did, and do things to develop himself as a person and to allow himself to grow into the better person that he was meant to be. Then he will deserve a second chance with a new team, but he's gotta put in that work first.
Incognitos issues arent just that hes an asshole, its that he cant seem to leave it out of the lockerroom. If he were just a prick in hi personal life, then it would be a different story but instead, he cant control himself to the point that it becomes detrimental to the team. Incognito might play in the nfl again and he might not, i dont think the jets are the organization looking to make that call thiugh.
just throwing this out there, but Rob Turner is available. we know he can play C, G, and contribute to ST as well as 6th man TE/FB type duties. He's only 29. Started all 16 games with the Rams in 2012. Started 6 games with Titans in 2013 before losing job to a 4th round pick, and then was placed on IR with shoulder injury. Not sure if he's the answer, but I'd like one more vet in the mix for insurance (and not Incognito)..
^ Between Rob Turner and Breno Giacomini the Jets might actually set the record for flags after the whistle.
But we would have a hell of a chance at winning the WWE tag team championship! I actually did like Rob Turner, but I don't see him as a major upgrade over the young guys we have on the team.
lol, throw in Colon for good measure and it's a battle royale. we'd be nasty at least, that's for sure.
I don't see him playing for anyone to be honest. And after the expulsion & heavy fine the NBA laid on Sterling for racial remarks I find it hard that in this trendy PC culture any team wants to be susceptible to any kind of media hype or litigation anywhere near what it had caused for the LA Clippers. Arena football teams included.
we've seen Winters struggle in the regular season. we've seen Aboushi look absolutely dreadful against third stringers in the preseason. We haven't really seen anything of the other developmental prospects like Freeman, Campbell or Dozier. i don't see how anyone could be comfortable with that. i think it's one too many developmental prospects. If they cannot beat out a journeyman vet, maybe we shouldn't be wasting a roster spot. it's time to earn the spot, and i don't think all of them will make it. personally, i'd like to increase the level of competition by adding another vet to the mix (not Incognito).
My point is just because the Jets have some guys on the current roster doesn't mean any of them are ready to start, or for that matter even make the active roster. We haven't seen them (other than that long ago sighting of Aboushi, who as you said did not look good). It will be interesting to see what the FO does about this. If they are confident Colon makes it back, fine, they may do nothing. But this injury is a reminder how fragile Colon is, and how lucky the Jets were to make it almost all the way through last season with him.
