With the pick of Dee Ford, Chiefs now have three starter quality OLBs. They are: Tamba Hali Justin Houston Dee Ford Of course, nothing is set in stone, but, to me, this seems like Chiefs are saying "11M for OLB is a bit too much." For now, Hali is signed through 2015 [at 11M/yr], and Houston's rookie contract runs out after this year - meaning they have to extend him now. [There was a report that they were in contract talk as early as last March.] So... with that in mind... enter Dee Ford. In due time, they won't be carrying three OLBs at 10M/yr tag. That is a certainty. My question here is; can Jets pry one of them away? At right price? I would say one of 2-3 round pick, with 7-8M/yr contract seems reasonable. And yes, all three qualify as 3-4 OLBs.
If it's anyone I would love Hali, he has one of the better hand techniques when it comes to engaging defenders in the NFL today. 2 3s maybe would get it done? Along with a contract extension?
Hali is at $8.5M this year and $9M next year not $11M. He also came in this year about 20 lbs. overweight according to rotoworld. Don't really think he fits what the Jets are looking to do as far as getting younger and a player who is going to be 31, puts on an extra 20 lbs.in the off season and was starting to have some knee problems is not worth a 2nd or 3rd round pick. He had a very good year last year but they need to stick to the plan of building through the draft.
Oh... right. I didn't check his age. Then it's more than clear that Ford is the replacement for Hali. You can consider this discussion done then.
