This kid has the ohhhhhhhhh factor, when he hits a WR over the middle the crowd will all be saying OHHHHHHHH and I'm glad he is ours. When was the last time a WR or TE had to think of someone laying them out from the Jets.
I was reading up on Calvin a little more, they said this guy hits harder then any of the safeties in the past 15 years - nuts ...
I just want him to make tackles, not break femurs. No more long gains up the middle from mediocre RBs/wildcat QBs please.
Definitely appreciate that sentiment. I'm just hoping he makes Calvin Pryor a household name the way Polamalu is. He's got a shot at that.
man he seems like a punisher. Him landry and allen will run rex's 3 safety schemes well. I think they will give the pats offense even more problems. Brady stunk it up against us last year thanks to our front 3 but imagine now while Milliner is showing potential and we have a bruiser lke Pryor (Plus Allen STILL locking up on Gronk) gonna be fun to watch. I want them swept and dethroned this year. For once!
When Rex said in one of the pressers that Pryor reminded him of someone but he didn't want to make that a public burden on him, is the assumption that he meant Polamalu?
I just hope he gets more fumbles and pass breakups than red flags for targeting and taunting. Today's NFL doesn't smile on big hits over the middle.
Short, check. 4.5+ 40, check. Hits like a ton of bricks, check. Play maker best left free in the secondary, check. It's not an unreasonable comparison but I am really glad Rex didn't make it in front of the media.
The taunting is going to have to be addressed, if it occurs. It occurred some in college. Those are personal foul penalties that serve no purpose other than to put your team in a hole. I saw very few defenseless receiver type hits on the highlight tapes and the couple of full game tapes I watched after the draft. He does hit hard but he doesn't launch himself at receivers in the act of catching the ball. He kind of wraps them up very hard leading with his shoulders. There were several cases where the ball came out and it wasn't helmet or shoulder on the ball. Those are just bone-crushing hits that rock the receiver enough to jar the ball loose. The thing that I really liked about his tackling is that he hits the guys between the knees and the shoulders. He's already disposed to legal tackles entering the NFL. He doesn't try to shoestring guys or hit them below the knee or take shots up top. I think he's going to be ok aside from the potential for trouble from taunting. He's also going to have to be careful on the sidelines, especially against QB's. A legal hit from Pryor could draw a flag just because the refs are pre-conditioned to watch very closely on the sidelines or when the hittee is a QB.
Close your eyes for a moment, and imagine if we got Jairus Byrd back in March, and we had Byrd and Pryor back there for the next 4 years... And now back to reality... Pryor is going to be a good addition to our backfield... Feel much better about the pick today then I did Thursday night with Brandin Cooks sitting there and not being picked.
I know it's still early but has he said what number he's going to wear? I think Amaro announced his number.
