I was rather pleased with this draft .. Our special teams which has deteriorated in years due to a lack of depth among reasons will have a much needed makeover. We also added much needed speed and overall depth to our team! Also as someone else posted .. Reilly could be a STEAL out of the 6th round! All this and we still have UFA signings and possibly a few more free agent signings, signings after cuts, and who knows perhaps a trade!
I hope he can, I'm sure our pro strength and conditioning program has got Utah's beat by a mile but he is relatively old for a rookie and probably has a pretty full grown stature. I think he's just one of those guys that has to overcome his lack of top end physical gifts with diligence and ferocious play. Jim Leonhard is an example of a guy like that, and since all we spent was a 7th round pick on Reilly I think it's a risk worth taking.
Haha .. Nice!!! Mehta posted on twitter that he would hitchhike home if the Jets used all 12 draft picks!
Love it, Idzik's been irritated by Mehta since his introductory press conference. Mehta was the one who was questioning Idzik's qualifications, and saying the Jets hired Idzik because no one else wanted the job. What a prick.
I am very pleased in general. Addressed all the key areas, and picked up a few gems here and there. I was really stoked with Reilly pick. He should have been gone by 4th round, by my estimates. Just - I really thought Jets could snag McCarron with 5th round pick. That would have been the final icing on the cake for me. P.S. Jackson Jeffcoat is still available. Jets should take a look, no?
I think McArron is whiny punk. Instead of confidently talking about how hard he would work to show teams he could be a starter in the league, every program I heard him on he basically complained how it was BS that teams don't consider him a franchise guy.
We shall see. Like the Pryor, Amaro, and Saunders picks. The rest for obvious reasons are gambles but look like they could be starters over what we have now. Jets showed their faith in Geno in not drafting another QB
He might have meant "not drafting an early round QB". We could have drafted Manziel in the first, but thankfully we did not. The QB we drafted late is expected to compete for the #3 spot, whereas a 1st round QB pick, the assumption is that they are going to be the Week 1 starter.
Well I am 50/50 on the picks.....I am thrilled they didn't do a corner in picks 1 and 2....however I am not thrilled WR was not a pick at 1. I understand the safety pick but IMO the need at WR trumped the need for a first round safety. I realize that's an arguable point but it's just my opinion...... I did not like the run on WR - what the hell are we the Detroit lions for goodness sakes... I am still very concerned about the OL and would have liked another pick at OL... This could easily be a boom/bust draft and getting 2 starters will not be enough. In a deep class like this u need 4 starters to hit pay dirt. Time will tell.
I would have rather taken Cooks but I like the Pryor pick because it fills a big need, he's a big hitter, just hope his coverage skills are up to par. Love the Amaro pick as I've been a big fan of his for a while, he's got a chance to be a real good one. I don't like the rounds 3 and 4 picks. Two critical rounds in this draft and I think the Jets talent evaluators had McDougle, Saunders and Evans ranked too high on their board. McDougle is the only one who I think has a shot as long as he can stay healthy. I like the Reilly and Enunwa picks. Reilly is a tough guy but he needs to work on his speed and lateral quickness from the tape I saw. He's 6'5 245 which is ideal size for a DE/OLB in certain situations. He shouldn't add anymore weight as it will kill the little bit of quickness that he has.
I was in love with the Pryor pick. Can you imagine if the secondary can be anywhere near as ferocious as the front line and Milliner turns into a shut-down? Jeeze what could any offense do against that for the next 10 years.
Something tells me that when is all well and done, the addition of Pryor, Amaro and Saunders will make us forget all about the desire to draft a WR with the first or second pick. This team might rock in defense and be very competitive on offense. Special teams might once again become a strength for us. Saunders might turn out to be the steal of the draft.
