It seems like its the case every year with the Jets for the last 10 seasons that we always perform the opposite of expectations. Every time we are expected to do great like 1998 and 2005 we end up being pretty bad. Every time we are epxected to do poorly like 1997 and 2006 we play pretty well. I am just using these years as examples but it seems like its been the case for every season since as far back as 96. What do you guys think?
It's because the NFL schedules are weighted depending on how well or poorly your team played in the previous season. Take the Giants and Jets this year for example: The Giants played much better last season, and probably have a better team this season but they're 1-2 because they've had to play the Colts, Eagles and Seahawks. We were awful last season but we've gotten off to a great start because we've gotten to beat the Bills and the Titans.
Yah know what I think it is. I think Mangini either A)makes sure the players don't pay much attention to the media and tells them to just go out their and give it their all. B)let's the guys know what the team is expected of that week (or whole season) and that gets them motivated to prove the media and press wrong.
If Vinny doesn't go down who knows where we would have gone. We finished strong with Ray Lucas, but Vinny looked awesome in the Pats game. I personally think we would have gone to the Super Bowl if Vinny doesn't get injured. I don't think we would have beaten the Rams though
Actually, that is not really true. Ever since the NFL went to 4 divisions, there is not much difference in the schedules within each division. Each team in a division plays 14 common games of the 16 on the schedule. The only difference between the first and last place team in a division is two games. For example, the entire AFC East plays each team in its division twice (6 games), the teams in the NFC North (4 games), and the teams in the AFC South (4 games). Only the remaining two games are determined by the place a team finished the year before. The Jets, as the fourth place team in the AFC East plays last year's 4th place teams in the AFC West (Oakland) and the AFC North (Cleveland). So the Jets and New England each play six division games, the four teams in the NFC North (GB, Det, Min, Chi), the four teams in the AFC South (Ind, Jack, Ten, Hou). The Pats then play the first place teams from the AFC West (Denver) and the AFC North (Cincinnati). The Giants' schedule is hard because of the divisions they play, not because they finished first. The Giants play the AFC South and the NFC South as well as the first place teams from the NFC West (Seattle) and the NFC North (Chicago). The NFL schedules just rotate. Last year the AFC East played the NFC South and the AFC West. In 2004 the Jets played the NFC West and the AFC North. So the Jets will play each division in the AFC every 3 three years and each division in the NFC every 4 years. Next year the Jets will play the NFC East and the AFC North.
not to ruin on ur parade but we have only played three games and tennesse is not a very good team as it is so i think we should stop getting carried away
yes, but we play 4 teams who finished in last place last year and 2 that finished 1st (not counting own division) while the Pats play 2 last place teams and 4 1st place teams. It does add up, and is the most fair way to go. Although I still wish we had 3 divisions per conference. I think 4 spreads out the teams too much
Yes we beat the Titans and Bills but they are still NFL teams and we still had to go out and execute the proper plays. Obviously the true test lies ahead but at least we got off to a good start and got a division win, and showed the Pats that they better bring it next time we play.
Both those years the Jets suffered more than their share of devasting injuries. Where have the Jets played pretty well this year? They beat two poor teams, neither of whom had a NFL ready QB. Win a game against a halfway decent team before you crow about how great the Jets are. Bad offensive line who can't run block: http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NFL/OFF-RUSHING/2006/regular Ranked 27th in offensive rushing Bad defensive front seven who can't stop the run: http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NFL/DEF-RUSHING/2006/regular Ranked 25th in defensive rushing Mangini continues his record of putting up poor defenses
Only two of your team's games have anything to do with your record the previous year. Every team in a particular division has 6 games against its divisional foes. Then each team has 4 games against every team in a particular same-conference division and 4 against a particular non-conference division. That leaves two random games, which are determined by where you placed the year before, and come from different divisions than all the rest.
Hey, I did a little research on you. I went to alt.ny jets on usenet (which is now part of google groups) and talked to Harlan and those guys. According to them, you used to post how any player on the Jets was better than any player anywhere. You were like Mr. Jets. Then Herm came and you were smitten. Now Herm left and you're not Mr. Jets anymore....you're Mrs. Herm. Go look at the thread. It's entitled, what's with this Jenson creep?
It's a rebuilding year, obviously there will be some issues. Why don't you post our passing numbers? Oh I know why, because you're a miserable fucktard who misues statistics to support tenuous arguments. We beat 2 teams without an NFL ready QB? Kerry Collins has certainly proved himself to be NFL ready. So has Tom Brady. For that matter, any starting QB in the league is "NFL-ready", evident in the fact that they are starting in the NFL.
They have done away with imbalanced scheduling except for two games, everyone in your division playes the same teams( Same AFC Division, and NFC Division. the only difference is where you finish in the standings for the other two afc divisions.
