That was quite a hard job compiling those stats, I tip my hat to you for doing it and if you still have the file I would love to see it. Did you account for wildcat rushes by the qb? Even though it would be the qb running the ball it would still be a designed run play. If you excluded non-rb's from the rushing stats and a guy like Kerley rushed for 15 yards in the wildcat it could skew the stats. But if you went that deep to do all the teams I'm sure you found a way to include the wildcat rushes to our offense. Also, NFL and ESPN considers passes thrown to the wr behind the los to be rushes. So all bubble screens pad teams rushing stats. I was thinking about this for a while now and I'd love to know teams true rush yardage. And not just the as you say lazy way that those big sites compile a team's combined rush yardage.
I have them, but they are less organized than I thought, I'll mess with them over the next day or so to make it pretty.
I think we have a very solid stable of running backs but I'd love to see them pick up a De'Anthony Thomas type guy in round 5 or 6. I get that Rex is a ground and pound guy and while I'm happy we signed Johnson, not sure how much he has left in the tank and I'd love to have that dynamic playmaking home run hitter for 10-12 touches a game. Can't rememebr the last time we had that. _
Our running game is going to be a serious strength this year. Last year it started slow but picked up as the year went on. With Ivory AND Johnson it will diversify the running game and also improve our screen passing game. I'm looking forward to that quite a bit, as it is one of the staples of WCO, having a fast pass catching RB.
Actually, I haven't accounted for WC plays, or bubble screens. I'm going to probably take a while with this because I'm interested in that as well, this will probably be my weekend boredom project, hopefully it doesn't take more than a month.
I think it depends on the QB's running ability, and how much a part of the offense that ability contributes to winning games.
That really is cool of u to do for us. I was very interested in this as well so it's great that I'm actually going to be able to see it, cause I'd never find the time to crunch the numbers myself. Thanks again byz. If u ever come to NY/NJ for a game you're more than welcome to our tailgate. Drinks on me.
Well, I'm doing it for me, too, whenever I start trying to break down plays like that I end up learning a lot about different aspects, finding the time is the real challenge. Maybe if you called me an asshole and said I don't know anything about football, it would go quicker, stuff like that gets my adrenaline up. The next time I met someone from TGG face to face will be my first time, my east coast visits get busy and in the past they always happen in the offseason, but if I find myself in NJ during September or October I will definitely take you up on your tailgate.
The Jets could easily have the best rushing attack in the league next year. Imagine if Ivory could catch out of the backfield..geez. Powell is a solid back in his own right and he can catch, we are deep and talented at the position no doubt. I am hoping we use some of those mid round picks to bolster the offensive line.
I'll pretend NFL.com didn't just say Spiller/Jackson is the third best RB duo in the league and instead, I'll move CJ/Ivory up.
I'm just visualizing Ivory wearing down the defense and then Johnson coming through with a big run when the D is tired.
