The manager only ever matters if your team is competitive, and competing to stay out of the basement in the NL East doesn't count. I do hope they jettison Collins whenever they actually decide to try and put together a halfway decent roster because I don't like what I've seen from him, but the bat boy could manage this years team for all I care.
Once again, a quality start goes for naught. Mets had an opportunity up 2-1 with runners on first and second with nobody out and of course, they don't score. Nationals capitalize on this missed opportunity and take the lead the next half-inning. Again, the bullpen is bullsh*t and showed no ability to keep the Mets in the game during the later innings. Boy would it have been nice if Grant Balfour would have accepted the Mets offer instead of going back to Tampa for less money. Instead, we have Kyle Farnsworth. Wonderful.
Yeah I'm going to need Travis d'arnaud to start showing me something pretty soon. Since he came up I haven't seen any to suggest he's going to be a good MLB player and I so want him to be. Oh in case anyone is interested Mets are running a buy one ticket get one free deal. mets.com/donuts password donuts Even though they suck I still enjoy a day at the park.
Hey, at least the Mets are in the news because of Francesa and Esiason's idiotic comments about Daniel Murphy's paternity leave! Anything that exposes Francesa as the moron he is is always okay by me. And I do think there are good reasons to fire Collins now, even thought the team stinks. The Mets stunk when Gil Hodges came in 1968, but he changed the culture and started teaching the young kids how to win. The Mets were coming off one of the worst 7-year runs in baseball history when they hired Davey Johnson, and (admittedly along with an infusion of talent) he got them winning right away. I absolutely believe that for a young team a manager can make a difference, even if it doesn't show up right away in the standings. Collins is a terrible manager, and there's no reason for him to stay.
Maybe not. I don't think he should have been the manager for these three games to begin with, or any this season. But Alderson is really the bigger issue to deal with. Collins is just a symptom of Alderson's incompetence.
Collins picks Duda to be the everyday first basemen. I still don't get this. Duda is terrible. Davis is terrible. At least Davis as shown he can might actually be okay. Davis also as the much better glove. So of course, but the guy in who has 15 HR and 30 RBIs last season. Duda really shouldn't even be on a MLB roster, than again, the Mets have like 10 of those guys.
^picked the wrong day to post this. im just glad they picked a guy whoever it was, having a 3 player platoon is beyond idiotic
He has to be used in mop up duty. If that doesn't work, then a good bitch slap and a trip to Las Vegas will do.
Lannan is not a bullpen guy in my opinion..trying to convert him to one wont work Re 1st base...all we are doing is keeping it warm for 2 years til Dominic Smith hit NY...kid is a star in making....Darryl Strawberry MK2..MINUS THE COKE!!
I'm sorry but that was the worst curveball I have ever seen thrown, If Ike did not hit that out of the ball park, he should have been cut after the game. Terry Collins is terrible, Ike Davis is terrible, Duda is terrible. Lagares should be our center fielder, Flores should be our SS. I don't know what happened to Tejada, he was becoming a line drive hitter before he got hurt last year, and he is now nowhere the player he was. And Parnell should have been traded, reassigned, anything but give him the closer job. He only does well when there is no pressure. Like the second half of the season and the mets have been eliminated from playoff contention. Sandy has done a poor job with this team, I truly hope they can stay competitive but the bullpen is going to lead the majors again with blown games.
that was a pretty bad pitch, but he still hit it. credit where credit is due. I was shocked when Votto went to second on the bunt. man on second with one out is a much different scenario than first and second and no outs, and not worth the risk. so, the Mets won because of, really, one asinine decision by Votto that put his pitchers in a bad position, but I'm not going to pretend like it wasn't an enjoyable win to watch simply because Collins, Ike and Duda are terrible. enjoy the damn victory.
I do enjoy the victory, but the downside of this, will be Collins believing that Ike can be used at first base and it's going to be back to a platoon. Then we will be back to seeing him going 10-30 and the whole soap opera will play itself out again. He is done as a major leaguer, the mets need to move on from this guy already. Honestly the whole thing probably would not be so terrible if the bullpen would not blow so many games. Maybe it would inspire some confidence in the players to play situational baseball knowing that they could win some games. Attempting to hit to the opposite field to move runners over, sac fly,..etc I know it's too early to get crazy but I think a better manager gets this team in the right direction. I think Backman should have been given an opportunity.
You can just see that Wheeler is no where as good as Harvey. Not at this point anyway. Harvey has that attitude that it looks like Wheeler does not have. I mean he has a 3-1 count with the bases loaded? That should never happen.
Wheeler looks like he will be a #3 starter for a good team. I like Mejia more, but I think he will ultimately wind up as an 8th inning guy or a closer.
