Johnson's an idiot if he believes this. We need a steady rebuild that can lead to a team that is competitive consistently over an extended period, not a quick fix that flames out in two seasons leaving us back where we were last year.
We're screwed. We have two operating mentalities. First, our GM is slow and deliberate trying to build the infrastructure of the team, beam-by-beam, brick-by-brick. Second, you have Rex, who is on the chopping block. Rex has to make a gourmet meal out of scraps in 20 minutes or less or he's fired.
Woody Johnson is perhaps the most clueless Owner in Football and is giving James Dolan and Fred Wilpon a run for their money. Its no small wonder why in NY sports, we haven't won shit in so long. If it wasn't for the Yankees and the Giants, we might as well be in Altoona. Woody is becoming an attention whore. He really hates not being in the conversation good, bad or otherwise. (Tebow anyone?). My biggest question is why won't Woody Johnson hire someone with prior experience in the position they're interviewing for???? This is what happens when you're born with a silver spoon up your ass. Woody Johnson is gonna do it his way. Fuck experience, all you need is a good interview and you're in. Ever since Parcells left, Woody has only hired first timers for every important position. GM? No prior GM experience required. HC? Sure, why not. It shouldn't matter if you've never been a HC before. Good thing Woody never ran Johnson & Johnson or that brand would be in the flusher right now.
I think Woody is trying to give Rex the best team he can and expect results. If Idzik gets DeSean and a brings in some secondary help the pressure will be on Rex. I don't see him staying if we don't make the playoffs to be honest.
Sounds to be by Woody putting it out there that were intrested In Jackson is to put pressure on Idzik,Owners never come out and say there intrested in a player,so hopefully we can get this deal done and then draft Ebron,
I'm going to go out on a limb with a prediction: By the time the Woody Johnson era is over we will not only start to look upon the Hess era more favorably (I already do) but that Woody will go down as one of the most imbecilic owners in the history of the NFL. If I'm wrong so be it, but that's my prediction. Whether I'm right or wrong, I sincerely hope Woody sells the team ASAP. Maybe he'll get frustrated and want to buy a fantasy football team instead.
I think Woody is a better owner then he gets credit for,And Rex Ryan was a great hire ,as far as Idzik goes only time will tell ,we will get a better view of who Idzik is by the time training camp starts
It's one thing to commit to a partial rebuild by signing hold the fort plug and play types while focusing on draft and resigning our own guys. However, it seems the owner feels this roster is something it's not. We have a roster with 7 win talent yet this goddamn owner has the audacity to fraudulently claim to be in win now mode. I support a rebuild but signing Vick and jackson reeks of panic. Vick is an injury waiting to happen and with an unsettled ol on a proported run first o is jackson a smart signing? Woody wants to continue to fleece for an inferior product so I guess his bs is predictable.
It's just a soundbite (albeit a divisive one). In his position, he's not expected to say "yeah, book a 7-9 record, it's another year of rebuilding guys". I think we're reading too much into it.
A Rex Ryan lead Jets team will likely always be in contention of getting a playoff spot. Does not matter the QB situation
Wade Phillips was always in contention for the playoffs also when he was a HC, it's about time the heat is put on Rex, MT is gone, Sanchez is gone, a guy Rex vouched for, Revis is gone, a guy Rex could not live without. The only Piece left to be replaced is Rex, funny how the team is still just a possible playoff contender with Rex at the helm. As much as it is a sacrilege on this board to talk badly about Rex, maybe the jets need to improve one more spot on this team, and that's the Head Coaching position.
Yep. It doesn't add up. Woody probably realized that Idzik's off season so far was risking season ticket sales.
Talk about an over reaction. He hired Idzik knowing what type of guy he is and what his plan was, and I'm sure they are in constant communication. But owners are businessmen first, another season without the playoffs not only hurts prices, it also gets fans upset and he may feel pressure to fire Rex, which by all indications he does not want to do. Woody always gets more blame than he deserves.
Exactly. I would not be at all surprised to see Vick start opening day. No slow development for Geno--Rex has to pull out all the stops. _
I think that Woody is a tool and it annoys me when he tries to sound like a football guy. He is a money guy. I do not think Idzik is saying one thing and Woody is saying another. Idzik doesn't say anything, and frankly, I like that. I want them to build a consistently competitive team. If they do that, and have a coach who can get a team of decent talent playing their best in December and January, like Coughlin did with the Giants, then they can win a SB in the era of competitive balance.
So a passing comment from the owner at the league meeting reassuring the fans we want to win now is considered a salvo against Rex adding undue pressure. Apparently anything reported by the media causes Jet fans to over react. I see nothing wrong with his comment, nor do I see anything wrong with the win now mentally. Neither Idzik nor Rex would disagree with that. People are continuously being mislead by the media whose only job is to sensationalize everything. Just because we are restructuring or rebuilding our team does not exclude our desire to win now. LOL. What should he have said? "This is a long process of rebuilding a team, so don't expect too many wins for the next three or four years."
