because the jets have many holes, fa is one of the ways you fill them. it seems dom and his ilk keep throwing out the win fa battle, which is not what i've been reading from jets fans. they just want a couple of holes filled because the jets (or any other team) do not hit on every draft pick. a lot of people are putting too much stock into idzik coming from seattle so he's automatically going to build a winner the way the hawks did it, LOL. it will take a tremendous amount of luck to pull that off. how much did idzik have to do with building that team? not as much as some sunshiners here are giving him, that's for sure! just look at the phone conference call idzik and rex did with the media trying to do damage control on the fact that they have "blown chunks" on this free agency year when having plenty of money and lots of holes to fill. that conference call was without a doubt "damage control" ordered by woody because even he see's the media is right about screwing up free agency. WHY WOULD THE JETS NOW BE WILLING TO MAKE TRADES TO FILL HOLES AND HAVE IT COST THEM DRAFT PICKS AND MONEY, WHEN THEY JUST COULD HAVE FILLED A FEW POSITIONs LIKE THEY SHOULD HAVE WITH THE FREE AGENT MARKET! that conference call looked "BAD" and anyone with half a brain can see it. " they screwed up" is that part of idzik's plan? comical
Not sure how you got that from my post, as it is ambiguous as to whether talent should be acquired through trades, free agency, or the draft. Hopefully this clarifies my position: The Jets need to do whatever they believe they should in order to get a Super Bowl win. Again, it doesn't matter what you think or what my thoughts may be. Idzik is the GM. We have neither a choice nor anything resembling reliable information. And unless you believe he's trying to get fired, then you've got to think that he's going to do what he thinks he should do to win a SB in the near term. Sent using Tapatalk
What do i want as a Jets fan? I want a team that kicks ass on a weekly basis and gets some damn respect for once! And of course we all wanna win the big one. Waiting to see if we trade for Jackson, then who knows what we look for in the draft at 18. If its the best cb, i hope the first time we play the Pats we run a corner blitz and he hits brady so freakin hard and takes him out!.....hell, i just want us to be a consistant winning team. And i dont understand how Jared Allen is still out there for the taking. Anybody else realize how much better our dline would be with him
Why is it impossible for Jets fans (not you specifically) to be patient? It's MARCH TWENTY FIRST, folks! Training camp doesn't start for four months! Idzik no doubt has a plan in mind; he's not a moron. There will be cuts and trades- 1) after FAs are all signed, as teams regroup 2) after the draft, as teams regroup 3) after 6/1 cuts, as teams regroup And there will also be training camp cuts. Can we all just relax and let it play out? MUST we have a new cornerback right now??? Let's just let Idzik do his job the way he was hired to. He sure as hell knows more than we do! If training camp starts and we still have massive holes to fix, then start worrying. Re: DRC- I think he wanted a long, huge contract, something no smart team would offer based on his inconsistent career so far. He had already turned down Denver's 6yr/ $54 million offer. The Giants got him "cheap", only 5 yrs/ $35 million, when Denver signed Talib and he no longer had leverage to get that much. I suspect the Jets would've matched or beaten the Giants' offer, but he probably was still looking for $50-60 million when he met with Idzik. There is no way we'll ever know what was offered, Mehta's rumors notwithstanding. Just one man's opinion, someone who's been following the team since they were the Titans.
I'm willing to give Idzik some rope, especially if it's to set us up for long-term success. At some point we're going to actually have to pay a quarterback qb money, and the Sons of Anarchy aren't going to stay damn near free forever. If the slow FA makes sense in the broader 2-3 year framework, then great. Let's be realistic anyway - we don't have a whole hell of a lot of choice when it comes to being patient. The Broncos are all-in, loaded for bear because they have to be, and Brady continues to be goddamn-motherfucking-can-win-twelve-games-with-a-fucking-girl-scout-troop-at-wideout Brady. We can be a playoff team next year, but nothing we do this year is enough to put us in their class, which is an entire class below Seattle. Best I can hope for is we're fully ready to strike in two to three years when Manning, Brady, or both hang it up, ala 1999 (minus the soul-crushing qb achilles tear).
Building a team through FA is kind of like paint by numbers. But building a championship team through the draft is a true work of art. All GMs would like to be thought of as wise and talented and that just don't happen when the only thing you're known for is inheriting another teams over prices talent. Any dumbass who can scratch $20M on a check can do that. There's just not as much glory in sloppy seconds.
As a Jets fan I want people to stop starting when new threads when there are already about a dozen on this page alone discussing the same topics.
I want a Curtis Martin equivalent at every position on the team, a string of Super Bowl victories, and to win the Mega Millions jackpot when its over 400 million.
Mr T was a horrible drafter?I wouldn't call him horrible. He drafted Mangold,Revis,Harris,Wilkerson,Coples,Davis,Greene in third round,Yea he had some shitty picks but he wasn't that bad like your making it seem
I just have to correct a couple mistakes in the original post in this thread: 1) Eric Decker was the top WR available in free agency, but he is NOT a #1 WR...there's a reason Denver didn't even try to re-sign him. He's a #2 at best, leaving us with a hole still at WR1. 2) Losing Austin Howard, when we had plenty of cap space to keep him, and then replacing him with Breno Giacomini was a downgrade. All the experts said we are worse off as a result at the RT position. 3) We lose our #1 CB, Cromartie, and fail to replace him despite a ton of good options in free agency. Nobody understands this head scratcher! .....how anyone can defend Idzik at this point is beyond me. This has been a disastrous offseason for the Jets so far, all the unbiased observers see it that way....the best we can say in Idzik's defense is that there's still the draft and the possibility of finding a diamond in the rough in the bargain bin. But to say that this has been a good offseason for the Jets so far is to be delusional, even for the most optimistic of fans. The jury is still out, but a lot depends on the draft and on our 3 young CBs (Walls, Dowling, and Patrick).
i never said eric decker was a legit #1, i just said we signed the best WR in free agency i dont see a single outlet that says we are worse off signing a mediocre RT a lot of money compared to signing a better RT for cheaper. if you can justify that argument then fine cromartie was atrocious last year and is on the decline. we didn't replace him with overpaid CBs
if we could go 19-0 and fire the coaching staff and f.o. and cut the qb in favor of the back up the day after the parade i believe most jet fans would be happy. there would be a small percentage still screaming for the 3rd string qb but the majority would be satisfied
