We used to go on spending sprees and overpay for players. It never worked.

I like the new approach to spending wisely and valuing draft picks.

I've always felt the only way to sustain long-term success is drafting well. Filling the occasional hole with a big FA signing compliments that approach. Obviously a team has to draft well and not give away draft picks. I like Idzy's approach so far.

why not do both? I'm not saying over pay for every player but some are wroth over paying for. Revis would had been one.

It would have been wonderful to have Revis back ... but why would the Jets hamstring themselves for a single year. He signed a one year 12 million dollar deal ... he is trying to be Deon ... the ultimate mercenary ... someone you buy to win championships. Cept Revis hasn't won a single one yet.

we didn't go on many spending sprees, the only year we di was the offseason of '08 when we brought in pace, Faneca and Woody

Overpaying for someone means someone else is getting underpaid.

If that overpaid player was making difference in every down, I would at least try to understand it. A fucking CB? At 16M? That's plain stupidity.

He didn't want to come back. If he did, he wouldn't have signed a one year 12M deal with the Patriots.

I didn't say pay him 16m. If we would had offer him 13m he would had sign with us.

Its a night and day difference so far. I'm all for building through the draft. By the time the draft approaches we'll have signed a corner, an olb, qb, rg, te, and possibly another Wr. That way all of our holes will be filled before the draft with at least average guys who are not being paid big money. Then we go bpa in the draft, and hey if it's another cb in round 1 then so be it.

I just hope that our scouts are on point for the mid and low draft picks.

I want us to find the next Revis, and not spend the $ on a one year rental. He's not going to win you a Championship unless you have all of the other pieces together, which we don't yet. By the time this team is ready to compete with the top echelon teams (and this depends largely on the QB position and carrying out Idzik's plan), Revis will be older, slower, and possibly broken down. Move on.

i would have rather gotten a cb like verner. im not really worried about corner but it has to at least be a priority to get some kind of veteran presence besides kyle wilson starting in the backfield...

One year of Revis isn't worth 13 mil to the NYJ. If we could have locked him up long term that would be a different story but you know how he is Mevi$. These one year deals might come back to bite him in the ass if he ever gets injured seriously.

I like it, at the end of the day Idzik can't go nuts and approach FA with a win now approach cause we still have a question mark at the most important position in the game, QB. Cause nobody is really sure how good Geno is or isn't between the fact that last year was his rookie year and he had no weapons, the plan seems to be get some weapons on offense, see what Geno can do and make a decision next off season that will define the direction of the franchise for the next couple years or more.

Depends. Spending picks I think factors into peoples minds and we spent picks for Sanchez, Greene, braylon, santonio, Jenkins, and hill off the top of my head.

A smart gm would use both to improve the team. It looks like we will lose Cro and Idzik will have to go hunting once more to close a gaping hole.
Our FO just may be outsmarting itself. I hope not but?????

That's all Idzik is outsmarting is himself, look at Denver they made some big moves and there coming off a Superbowl appearance,The Jets are coming off garbage time and Decker is all we have to show for it
