To be fair, we did spend quite a bit in the 2008 off season, and that helped us get to the AFCCG twice. Obviously after those two seasons, it caught up to us (especially after having poor draft years in 09 and 2010).

Hm let's see. The Seahawks gave up a 1st round pick to sign Percy Harvin to a $70M contract last year, look how bad that worked out for them! Probably only 30 other examples in the last 10 years.

He obviously was. First RT signed, and 2 different teams (including us) offered him 6M per year.
Who is the more attractive RT in FA?

I'll be alright on losing Howard if we sign Streif and draft a T (it's time anyway).
Plenty of cap room, and a lot of value guys still available who i like:
Sproles (if Saints release), Clemons, James Jones/Tate/Sanders , McCluster, Pettigrew, etc..

Losing out on Verner hurt a little, especially considering how comparably little he signed for.
Revis will be available tomorrow. never know..

If you hate the Jets so much, why don't you start rooting for another team?

So, at the end of day one, most of the posters have gone to bed. JV51 and NYJATW may have gone to the hospital, and very little has hit the Jets wire.

Best I can tell is that 104 UFA's have either signed or been resigned out of a class of 426. Last year it looks like there were about 400 signings total and another 250 or so who retired or otherwise faded away. I can't find a number for first day signings so I don't know if this year's number of about 25% is high or low. What is interesting is that skill players had only 26 out of 127 signed and 19 were actually resignings. I don't see any reason to get crazy yet, but we geezers have more patience than today's instant gratification bunch.

Giacomini is a higher-rated FA than Howard is. It would be an upgrade.

Will you think the same thing when he doesn't sign or trade for Revis and Revis signs with the Pats? ;)

It's really interesting actually. CBs, Safeties and Offensive Lines are getting a lot more money than usual, which will raise the price of those positions throughout the league. Skill positions are still up in the air, though much of that has to do with the fact that most Free Agent wideouts are simply not very good (and the fact that the draft looks really good for receivers.)

How is that exactly? He has been the starter for the Seahawks, who are a lot better than the Jets, and they had a very good rushing attack and I don't believe a lot of sacks. Giacomini is the higher-rated FA OT, so how exactly is that a downgrade and Giacomini would "have" to compete for a job here. I swear some of you guys are absolutely clueless.

Lol. So let me get this straight, people are PISSED that we didn't pay Jyrus Byrd Polamalu-like money, or make AUSTIN HOWARD a top 5 paid right tackle?!

This fanbase sometimes lol...GTFO of here.

There's THREE contracts today that I look at and say...wow that team got really good value. THREE. And one player doesn't fit our system and instead went to a team where he's a perfect fit (Verner), one player re-signed with his current team (Monroe) and one player went to a team fresh off a Super Bowl appearance (Ward.) Talib deal? Way too much guaranteed money for a headcase. Do people not remember that he shot a fucking gun at his girlfriend? Vontae Davis probably used us for leverage, and is another guy I'd be leery of giving a lot of guaranteed money too.

ZOMG!! We didn't give AUSTIN HOWARD 6 MILLION PER OVER 5 YEARS!!! Derpy derp.

Yeaa! I mean the parallel is right there! Who could forget the Red Sox trading Ruth to the A's for a boatload of picks, only for the A's to release him and the powerhouse Yankees to sign him a year later!!!

And the Yankees sucked before they got Ruth. Pretty sure the Pats already had a dynasty.

Looks like we ARE building through the draft.
I absolutely endorse the way the Jets FO is going about business, not be rushed or held to ransom.
This is a new regime, new team, new outlook but the same whining fan base.....it seems.
