Why spend all that to trade up for Watkins, when we could stay put at #18 and get either Marqise Lee or Mike Evans? Personally, I think Lee is the best WR prospect in this year's draft; he was the top ranked receiver a while back and might still be if not for the injury concerns. But I don't think he's much of a long-term injury risk. I'd take Lee.
This draft is too deep for WRs for that. We could ideally land us two very WRs with our 1st 2 picks. I think Ebron or Evans aren't that far off from Watkins and they're much bigger. So, hell NO!
I don't like the idea but if they did I wouldn't be mad. He'd be the best receiver the jets got since Keyshawn.
That would be pure insanity. You don't just give away a 2nd and two 3rds, especially in a draft supposedly this deep. I wouldn't even consider something like that unless -- maybe -- it was for a QB like Andrew Luck. And even then, you hamstring your team enormously. (I'd rather be on the Rams side of the RG3 deal.) There is an overlooked downside to getting the "best of the best", specifically, at a position. It hurts your ability to add talent everywhere else. Look at the at Detroit Lions. They have like like 40% (?) of their salary cap eaten up by 3 players: Stafford, Megatron and Suh. When you have to pay each player like $15 - $20M the scraps go to scrubs and lesser players to fill out the 53. As solid as the front 7 has been, for years their secondary has been among the worst in the league.
Call me crazy but IMO..I feel like every couple of years there is a draft class that all the experts will say this is the deepest draft at this positions etc and half of them end up out of the league.remember limas sweed,James hardy, Greg little, Brian robiski,etc.... To me again in my opinion... I know there are good prospects in this draft but how many of them will be a true #1.. We don't need a 2 we need a sure fire #1.. Watkins chances of being that seem greater then The other receivers.. I feel like Evans and lee are going to be good 2's.. There's a difference between getting the next aj green/ Julio jones type prospect then say a Jeremy maclin/ Michael Floyd type who were picked in the teens...we need a consistant 1000 yd player and not a 700-800 per year.. That being said..I like having a lot of draft picks and value them to build a young team with depth like Seattle did..but At the same time Watkins just seems like he's going to be special.. I would be excited if we traded up for him but if it didn't happen and say we got lee I'd be happy too.. I dunno sorry for the randomness
Jets roster is too full with holes. Are you telling me Jets should trade up because they fear busts? What guarantee do you have, that tells you Watkins will be the only non-bust pick out of the WR crops? If you don't have that guarantee, that immediately means trading up is for suckers. [Hell. You don't even have a guarantee that says Watkins will be a HoF calibre WR either - or an all pro WR at it. With the amount of holes to fill up, you'd better have a damn good justification to trade up, and the reasons you gave above doesn't qualify as one.]
Please no trading up.. Let's stick with our picks and develop from within! There is way 2 much talent in this draft... Besides Watkins is not a sure thing... Let our organization be wise with this draft. With all the picks we have we can build a strong foundation for our team.
