because brown is coming off a monster year. personally i prefer tate. tate and ivory and powell would be a serious backfield. (goodbye goodson at that point.)

I was actually content with Ivory/Powell for next season, but I suppose Brown would be an upgrade over Powell, and he's a local guy.

That bum Goodson can fuck off however.

    I dont see the point.

Ivory, Powell and a guy like Archer or DAT in the draft.

People are down on Brown, don't really know why.
He's a tough runner, very good receiver and a good pass blocker.

Tate is good too but will cost more imo.

Because Brown was a bust that finally in his 5th year had his best season.

    Powell>>Donald Brown

really don't see the need to spend money here. we are about to have 10-12 draft picks, rb isn't a huge need and rb's are one of the easier positions to fill.

This is kind of surprising. Ivory really got better as the season went on while Powell was decent as a change of pace option. Goodson looked very explosive in the very short time he was available, but with injuries and off-the-field issues, his roster spot is probably in jeopardy. I hope he has a better offseason and gets a chance to be a play-maker.

But what would make signing a RB so surprising is that the team currently has three veteran RBs on the roster and this draft seems loaded with RB talent in the middle rounds.

  10. Totally disagree. When Brown was drafted Joseph Addai was still the starter. He's been productive every season including as a situational back Up. He outplayed everybody's darling Trent richardson until everyone decided he stunk.

He's considerably faster & better in open space than Powell.

I'm not sure I understand why people are opposed to this

1.The team needs a backfield receiving threat
2.Rbs arent paid like they used to
    3. It pays to be 3 deep at rb for depth & matchups. Rbs dont stay healthy and/or effective for 16 games. It pays to be deep & ride the hot hand

It fills a need, adds depth & does so cheaply.Whats the issue?

You say that as if Addai was anything special at that point. There was a reason they drafted Brown in the first round in 2009. He hadn't over up to expectations

There was a reason they traded for Trent Richardson.

Brown had a nice season this year, but Powell is better. He can catch out the backfield, block and is pretty good running inside and outside.

I like powell but either brown or tate would be an upgrade over him i think. Although he did ok, powell seemed to leave alot of yrds on the the field. Many times it looked like he could have or should have gotten more yardage on plays than he actually did. Goodson if healthy and out of trouble can definitely be a difference maker in the run game. So i would prefer to keep goodwin over powell and sign tate or brown if price is right of course.

  13. I dont consider Brown a bust..but then again I dont use the term as loosely as others.

I also think alot of your argument centers around the concept of having one featured runner. Those days are over. You need 2 maybe 3 reliable rbs now. Richardson was likely brought in to be paired with brown.

We can agree to disagree about brown vs powell but I think hes a superior inside runner, outside runner, receiver & equally as good in pass pro

I know most teams use duel backs these days. My point is that the Colts drafted Brown in the first round and he hasn't lived up to expectations. They thought they were getting a feature back, instead he was god awful in that role. If Brown was the feature back they hoped for, they wouldn't need to give up a first round pick for Trent Richardson.

pointless pick up either way. if we getting another RB it needs to be a Darren Sproles playmaker type. like DEANTHONY THOMAS

Here's my take on the RB position. If we can get significantly better without significant dollars going out then I'm all for it. Having said that, I'd like to see how productive our backfield would be without 8 or 9 in the box because we have zero receiving threats. If we can get a decent tight end and vastly upgrade the wide outs then I think you'll see a significant uptick in our running game...NOT that it was all that bad last year. Oh, and an upgrade at RG will help too!
