Lots of players rocket up the rankings following the Combine if they run well, perform well in the drills, etc. The anticipation of what is likely to happen for him is probably what is elevating Beckham to the 1st round. That said, I think he's a much better prospect and much more NFL ready than Benjamin. I'd rather have Landry than Benjamin. I don't see Megatron potential in Benjamin at all. IMO you're getting too caught up in the number of passes he caught with his college team. There can be a lot of reasons for that which have nothing to do with who is the better WR. IMO Beckham is 10x the prospect that Landry is. Landry is your prototypical possession receiver imo. Goes over the middle, is fearless, has great hands, but isn't gonna scare anyone with his speed and is not a #1 WR. Beckham is explosive, smooth, has very good hands, is a real deep threat and a very possible future #1 WR.
Clearly you havent watched much of Beckham then... Name ONE weakness to his game, please. He's explosive, creates separation, is a pretty polished receiver that ran a ton of routes- especially intermediate and deep routes which we sorely need, he's a playmaker with the ball in his hands, he has phenomenal body control, great hands, can play inside and out, can return kicks and punts (for his former ST's coach who we just hired)... This is nothing against Landry or Benjamin, Beckham is just a better player- better player than Marqise Lee too who everyone here has a hard one for. I see a lot more holes in Lee's game than Beckhams, thats for sure. When he runs a sub 4.4 (or at least damn close to it), he will without a doubt solidify his place as a first rounder. Also, Beckham is MUCH more like Antonio Brown than Mike Wallace. Wallace just runs in a straight line while Brown creates separation throw explosive cuts and precise route running- just like Beckham. Landry is not like Brown at all.
Exactly. You have to look at how each player was used. Landry was the slot/short WR while Beckham took care of the intermediate and deep routes (hence why Beckham has almost 20 less receptions and almost the same amount of yards). Its like saying, oh Julian Edleman has more catches than Josh Gordon, so he must be the better player!
Like i said before i'm not hating on Beckham BUT he's not even close to the prospect Benjamin is! He was not dominant as Benjamin in collage, he is not as big, not as physically gifted, not more athletic and doesn't have the championship pedigree. Benjamin is 6'5'' 235 lb and runs a 4.55 - 40 yarder! That is a freak! He also proved on the field in every way that if you dont double him he will torch you in every way. This kid is special where as i believe Beckham is going to be a good pro but not anywhere as close to as dominant.
You clearly sir have no idea what your talking about or haven't watch many Nols games this year. sorry... Calvin Johnson 6'5'' 235lb and runs a 4.45 - 40 - JR season 1206 yards 15 TDs Kelvin Benjamin 6'5'' 235lb and runs a 4.55 - 40 - JR season 1011 yards 15 TDs To say you cant see the comparison between the two players makes you look rather foolish.
The last time Megatron ran a 4.45 he had a parachute strapped to his back. He is a low 4.3 guy. A 4.55 for Benjamin would be a really fast time for him. He looks more like a 4.6 on film. That said Benjamin is still a beast just not the caliber of P-Diddy, I mean, Calvin Johnson. I'm afraid that mold was broken after they made him. This is why Johnson was the 2nd overall pick in his draft and Benjamin will picked in the bottom half of the first unless he completely surprise everyone with a 4.4 at the combine.
Ok fair enough.. I went on Wiki and it showed CJ's 40 time to be 4.47 actually. But i'll take ur word for it
Kid, you need to wake up. You're the one who has no idea what you're talking about. You're so in love with some guy that goes to your school that you can't see that he isn't anywhere near polished or NFL ready. You're blinded by your youthful enthusiasm. Just because he is tall and big and can run pretty fast for his size doesn't mean he compares to Megatron. That's just ridiculous. Also just because he dominated in college doesn't mean squat either. LOTS of players are dominant in college who played against a lot tougher competition than Benjamin did, and don't do anything in the NFL. There's also the matter of his work ethic. Often times kids that dominate in college due to naturally being bigger, faster, etc., and who have questionable work ethics, bust in the NFL. They try to get by on talent alone because that's what they've always done. If Benjamin is drafted in the first round, it will primarily be because of his size and potential and much less because of his refinement, polish, route running ability, etc., and more than likely he will be overdrafted. Beckham is 10x more polished and ready for the NFL. He has great speed, explosion, body control, hands, is a polished route runner and has pretty much run all the routes. You can't even begin to honestly say the same things about Benjamin. WW85 is obviously one of the most knowledgeable posters on this forum. He has probably forgotten more about evaluating draft prospects than you'll ever know. He has told you that Benjamin isn't all that you think he is, as have a number of us who have more experience than you. I'm done discussing this with you because you think you know everything, and it's pointless. Obviously, you are very young, so I'll excuse your youthful zeal and ignorance. I've been watching the NFL for probably 3 times as long as you've been alive, and I have a lot of experience watching both college and NFL football. There's a big difference between college ball and the NFL. I'm not saying that Benjamin isn't an excellent prospect. But he is pretty raw. It could be two years before he develops into a complete WR or it could be never. He's much more risky at this point than Beckham, Evans, Watkins or Cook, and probably even Lee and Robinson. It doesn't matter that he may have a very high ceiling. The Jets shouldn't use their first or second round pick on any player who is risky or a bit of a project. They need players who are "safe," who can come in, start immediately and play at least at a respectable level, if not a very high level.
Kid lol First off son don't refer to someone as blinded by youthful enthusiasm if you don't know that as fact. You said that you can't see that comparison at all when in fact they had similar collage stats at the same age and almost the exact body structure. Is Benjamin a lock to be Megatron? No! Does he have the tools and skill to reach that level? Yes! Also for the record i'm not a Nols fan i'm a Bama fan... Look, i have seen this kid on tape and he is just unbelievable and absolutely dominated in single man coverage. No one could cover him this year 1-1... That can only be said about Sammy and Evans in this draft class. I dont buy all these BS rumors about his work ethic... The kid tripled his yards and TDs from his previous season! To me that shows the drive to be better! PLUS our scouts were at the game vs Florida where Benjamin blew up for 212 yards and 3 TDs!! So you might need to start warming up to him
No way this Kid is an absolute stud and will be great in the NFL he has Polumalu like instincts fast and strong and he destroys people in the open field
If he falls to the second, then I am all for it.. No way we go defense in the first... What if we get Jarius in the offseason? We would be set at safety.. Byrd at FS and Allen at SS.
Bias much? Btw that didn't seem the case against Oklahoma in the bowl game. I don't want a FS with the 18th pick, unless of course by some miracle we get a bunch of receivers in FA.
OBJr seems like a Jeremy Kerely with a higher ceiling to me. I can completely see him in that same role running similar routes and being the premier kick returner but with more elusiveness and WAY less fair catches leaning to him being a major special teams boon. Theres a sinking feeling in my gut, and i'm pretty sure its because of his size, that he's not the WIDEOUT we've been looking for though. If the jets got Eric Decker and a TE in round 1 or 2 along with Beckham I'd feel great, but if he was supposed to be the answer to our woes on his own I'd be wary. Not gonna complain about him being picked in the 1st if that happened though.
Yes. Just, yes! He was not dominant as Benjamin in collage. YES fact He is not as big. YES fact Not as physically gifted. YES fact Doesn't have the championship pedigree. YES fact Benjamin is 6'5'' 235 lb and runs a 4.55 - 40 yarder! YES fact He also proved on the field in every way that if you dont double him he will torch you in every way. YES fact
I don`t get how some people can hate on Benjamin... Its crazy... Either they dont actually watch tape or they just feel they need to pick on one of the best WR prospects in the past 2 years... I dare ANYONE who has negative things to say to take 2 hours and watch his tape and tell me that he isn`t a stud! His combination of size, speed, agility, hands, strength and championship pedigree is rare. Watkins, Evans and Benjamin are all elite prospects.. Some people got to wake up and actually put some time into watching his play because unfortunately Evans, Watkins and Ebron will be gone by 18 and realize he is BY FAR the best pass catching prospect we could select at 18.
While I will admit Beckham Jr is a very good athlete he is more of a slot guy and has a tendancy to make a special catch followed up by a drop on a unexplainable easy catch I would draft Benjamin or Devante Adams before Beckham Jr due to there physical size and aggressive nature in going after balls.. I have been a stalker on this site for quite a while and there are 2-4 guys who act as if they know it all I have seen these same guys off on draft pick very badly for several years. FYI the draft is a crap shoot and opinions vary just because you study tape don't mean you know what your looking at or how to evaluate prospects like paid/trained NFL personnel stop being so full of yourself knock it off!!!
I'm not high on clinton dix. Yes hes big & can hit but he doesnt close well & lacks range.Quite honestly he reminds me of Sam Garnes.Calvin Pryor is the superior safety prospect & likely has value at 18
While I totally disagree with you regarding Beckham Jr.'s being a slot guy, I totally agree with your last statement. I think some of us do have better eyes for spotting talent than others, but none of us are experts or we'd be working for an NFL team. All WRs drop some balls occasionally. Beckham has excellent hands and high points the ball, so the problem isn't with his hands. More than likely, t's a matter of focus, and that's probably the easiest deficiency for any rookie NFLer to make. Sometimes athletes need contacts to correct a vision problem and that resolves the problem. Some just have bad hands, however, and while catching hundreds if not thousands of passes can help, some have such bad hands that nothing helps significantly. That isn't Beckham. I don't even think that applies to Hill, but it may.
