Why is no1 talking about taking a flyer on this guy this offseason? His first couple of years in the league he was really productive n has everything you want in a WR (Tall, Fast, Physical, runs solid routes, Good Hands) I know hes had a bit of an injury history the last couple of years but he could be one of those Idzik low risk, high reward "competition" players we know he loves to snag on the cheap. If he could get back to his 2010 form he could be a true #1 receiver n that's completely possible seeing as he is only 25 years old. Part of the problem with him in Tennessee was he never had a consistent quarterback throwing him the ball Thoughts?
I would like Britt on this team. He's like 25, and he's got all the talent to be a very productive receiver. Him and Nicks are the only two receivers that I like.
He seems to always get in trouble when he comes back here, being his hometown. Physically he's got a ton of potential but he carries a lot of risk too.
I wouldnt mind it, although he really struggled to get open last year. He has a lot of talent, but he wouldnt be the only receiver I would look to add. Something like Tate/Edleman/Sanders + Britt would be very nice.
I think a core of Britt/Holmes/another FA or 1-4 round draft pick/Kerley/Nelson/Hill would look really nice. I would love for Holmes to stay if he is willing to take a pay cut. I might be the only one on this board that thinks Holmes is one of the best #2 WRs in the league n keeping him would be huge for Smith's development. We need to do EVERYTHING the opposite of what we did with Sanchez n that's keep continuity and ADD play-makers along with it. He seemed to be happy here last year and has even said he would like to return to NY in 2014.
Britt's a risk worth taking for the right contract. If Idzik believes that Britt can contribute, there's no reason for him not to sign him for an incentive-laden deal. An increased roster bonus in his second year for on-the-field production (e.g., X number of catches / X number of games played), and for good behavior off-the-field during his first year (0 incidents) make a lot of sense. The money can provide this kid with tangible ($$$) motivation to be a better player and a better man. Not to mention, he's also miles better than Hill, Gates, Hazelton, Salas, etc.
Britt would have a legit shot to compete with Clyde Gates for our best WR on IR. I think we have enough injury prone WRs. Hill, Holmes and Kerley were injured all year. I do not think any of the 3 had a game last year where they were not banged up or completely healthy. Gates was on the IR. Salas was even signed injured knowing he would miss 2-3 weeks. Sadly Nelson was coming off an injury. Sadly, Gates would likely have been our number 1 WR last year if he had stayed healthy. That is how badly our WRs were injured last year. Regardless of who we sign as a veteran WR I would love to see someone who can stay healthy all year. An incentive based deal where Britt competes for a spot is not a bad thing as we can always cut him if he does not work out. But do we really want to depend on Britt to be our number one next year. Most likely next year we sign one veteran to be our number one. We have Kerley as the 3. We draft a WR who competes with Hill for the 2 and 4 spot. Then Gates, Nelson and whoever else competes for the last spot. Having Britt as our number one does not get me excited. Having compete for the 5th WR and signing another veteran as our number one seems like a lot less risk.
No one's talking about him because he's a head case and cancer, and the last thing the Jets need to add to their locker room. He'd a dolt. It's obvious that he doesn't care about the game or maximizing his talent, only wants the money, fame and NFL lifestyle. I want no part of him.
So great, the Jets sign him, count on him, then he screws up royally, the Jets get hammered by the media, the circus continues, then they have to cut him and don't have a veteran WR to help them. Sorry, but your reasoning isn't very good. Signing and counting on him would be dumb. I mean really, why in the world should they sign someone who isn't likely to stay healthy and who is likely to be a cancer in the locker room? That makes no sense. It doesn't matter how cheaply he might sign. There have been a number of comments made recently about how locker room cancers destroyed that team this year. I'm sure Britt was one of the worst offenders. No freaking way I want that POS on the Jets.
Good post. Add me as someone who would LOVE to have Holmes on the team next year. He's our best receiver BY FAR.
I wouldn't want them to give him anything above a #3 receiver type money but he thinks he is going to a #1 receiver next year so I doubt he comes too cheap.
