Hopefully they will get a good WR in FA. If not their top three picks should have at least 2 receiving players. 1. TE Eric Ebron 2. WR Jordan Matthews or WR Landry 3a. CB 3b. RB/LB 4. I would go TE again Colt Lyria. I know he has bad personal behavior and a drug problem but his talent is exactly what we need. Giving Geno multiple targets and playmakers.
What happens if Ebron is gone? I think they should go into it like this: RD1 - TE/WR RD2 - WR/TE RD3 - FS/OLB/WR RD3 - OLB/FS RD4 - G/OT/QB RD5 - TE/WR/QB RD6 - RB/QB RD7 - RB/G
That looks good to me. Obviously it depends on what is available. If an amazing OLB is available in RD2 then I think you have to go for it but generally I would be fine with this kind of approach. Maybe even use one of our comp picks on a punter or KR specialist. Something to help our special teams.
Considering his well documented issues I wouldn't pick him up any earlier than the 6th. Maybe a comp pick or something so if he is a bust it doesn't seem like it's as big of a deal.
http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/46136/349/out-of-the-box Read this article to see who the Jets should draft at WR. Peshek does a great job of outlining where receivers catch the ball the most. Landry, Robinson, & Cooks would all be great choices in the 2nd if possible.
Ebron, Matthews or Landry would be big for this team. They need a FS much more than they do a CB. They also need an OLB or ILB more than RB imo. Colt Lyerla, unless they have clear proof that his drug problems are behind him (and they almost never are behind people with drug problems), that would be a really stupid move. They don't need the controversy, distraction or headaches. There are other talented TEs in the draft who have their stuff more together and don't have the demons Lyerla has. The Jets need a couple of reliable TEs they can count on.
I think their biggest needs are WR, TE, OG, OLB, & P. Depending upon what they do with Cro and Harris and some of their FAs, they also have potential needs at CB, ILB, RB, DE, & OT, and could definitely upgrade Landry/Allen at SS and Simms at QB. With 12 picks, they should hopefully be able to come out of the draft with 2 WRs, at least one TE, OLB, FS, OG, CB, ILB, RB, & QB, plus have 2 other picks to double dip or address another position.
How do you feel about Bruce Ellington as a mid rounder. Great explosiveness, but will be a 4/5 receiver and special teams player untill he gets more experience with the NFL route tree.
This is how easily swayed I am. Throw a bunch of numbers at me showing me that Matthews doesn't hold a candle to some of these guys, and I become a non-believer haha. I'm intrigued by Cooks and Landry. Becoming less intrigued by Matthews. But I'll take any of them. Screw it. Just keep drafting WRs and clean house entirely! Except Kerley. I like Kerley.
Just like the honey badger everyone wants him in the late rounds. He's not as hyped as Tyron Matheiu who went in the early part of the third round but the odds of him going 6th or 7th are small.
if we stay at 18 overall RD1: WR/TE RD2: whatever isn't taken in the first RD3: OLB and S RD4: CB/OL RD5: RB/WR/OL/ILB/QB RD6: WR/OL/QB/ILB RD7: P/WR/OL/RB if we trade down in round 1 RD1: WR/TE/OL RD2: same as first RD3: same as first with OLB and S every other round, see above.
RD1: 1. WR/TE if it's Watkins, Lee, Evans or Ebron 2. OT if it's Matthews, Robinson, Lewan or Martin 3. LB if it's Barr or Mack 4. S if it's Dix 5. QB if it's Bridgewater or Manziel This is way early but basically the Jets should get the maximum possible value out of the pick, hopefully at a position of need or barring that highest impact.
This but I am really intrigued at the aspect of drafting AJ McCaron. I wouldnt mind drafting a WR or QB and then trading up to get the other piece. Im not a huge fan of trading up and down but im starting believe McCaron is flying way under the radar and could be the draft steal.
