Terrell Davis w on the WFAN and said the Broncos were not worried about the Jets going into the 1998 AFC Championship Game. I'm surprised because the Jets were an outstanding team that year. He said the reason they got off tho the poor start was because they hadn't taken the Jets seriously and because they had been watching the NFCCG and were excited that they weren't going to play the Vikings. I just thought that was interesting.
the Jets were the better team, they shot themselves in the foot all game long. the Viking game ended when the teams were on the field so how were they watching it?
They weren't the better team but they warranted being taken seriously and would have won if they didn't shoot themselves in the foot like you said
the better team that day, we had a lot of unforced errors that gave the game away. If they played a clean game they win going away. we got Denver not at their best, it makes this game so painful to look back at b/c of that.
They were showing the Vikings game in the stadium I vaguely remember them saying that on 98 Broncos Americas Game episode.
It's easy to come out in 2014 and say you weren't worried about the team long after you beat them. I would take it seriously if he had said it before the game started. Anyone can say anything after the game is over.
bad karma for davis then he should have worried about the Jets because an injury he got in a game vs the Jets wrecked his career
Exactly. You have to expect TD to say something along those lines. Being a new Jet fan at that time (2nd season as a fan), that game sure did hurt. I don't know which one hurt more, that one or the Steelers AFCCG.
for me '98 was worse b/c I think we would have won the SB, '10 was painful and we would have had a good chance to beat GB but that would have been much harder than beating Atl.
The Jets blew a 10-0 lead in the 3rd Q in Denver and a 17-6 lead in Indianapolis. That is tough to watch. Being down 24-0 in Pittsburgh and making a nice attempt at a comeback made it easier to stomach, as odd as that sounds.
I agree about 98 and us beating the Falcons. Although the Jets in 2010 had that revenge factor going for them. First beating the Colts after losing to them the year before, then beating the Patriots after losing 45-3. If we beat the Steelers, I think we could have beaten the Packers - we gave Rodgers fits the first time around and the refs freaking screwed us during that regular season game. 2010 hurt more for me because I am far more emotionally invested in the Jets compared to 98. Plus, I felt if we got the ball back one more time in the Steelers game ...
The 2010 GB game was affected by weather which kept both offenses down, we wouldn't have had the same success against them. 2010 hurt more to me b/c I was at the game and it's 12 years later and I still haven't seen a SB but overall I think the '98 loss was worse b/c of the reasons I gave.
98 was the Jets best team of the 3. Martin sucked that day and we couldnt stop Davis in the second half. If Hall makes the FG on the first drive who knows what happens. Vinny was cookin to start the game.
Why anyone would pay attention to this is beyond me. It was 15 years ago and he hasn't said a word about it in all that time, and if it's true they were jackasses that almost cost themselves a trip to the Super Bowl by being overconfident. Being confident is professional; not taking your opponent seriously in the conference championship when they have a 13-4 record and were top 5 in both offensive and defensive scoring makes you a moron.
FUCK YOU Terell Davis you piece of fucking shit. You ruined 98 for my team. I'm glad your career ended with injuries.
No surprise. That Broncos team was the defending SB champs and they were understandably a little cocky and looking ahead. I won a lot $$ on that Broncos team so they get a pass by me
Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and call BS. You really think a team is just going to brush a team off that they are playing in the AFC title game? Riiiiiiight. If a team is good enough to make it there, yeah, you worry about them and game plan your best. That's not to say they weren't confident. It's good to be confident, but to just poo-poo a team and not prepare as hard because you're not afraid of them is beyond silly.
