I agree while Hines was a dirty player, he was excellent at blocking. Golden Tate plays in the same mold - and for a run first team like the Jets, he would be an excellent fit. Tate doesn't play as dirty though. I don't condone playing dirty, but sometimes you need that physical guy on offense (on the outside) to get far in this league. I'm sick of our wide receivers being soft getting owned at the LOS. Although, I do like Nelson and Kerley they are an exception.
5-6 mill for 3 years, so less than 2 mill a year for a player who ranks 9th in recieving yards over the past 2 seasons. It's a great thing that you aren't managing this team with numbers like that in your head. I doubt you could manage a burger king...Let me guess.....Your Whopper would cost 10$ but you'd complain at what McDonald's charges for a Big Mac...5-6 mill for Eric Decker for 3 years...lol...Even if you meant 15-18 mill over 3 years that's low balling the hll out of a damn good receiver. I want Eric Decker and Jeremy Maclin... Pay Decker $ years 39 mill, pay Maclin 2 years 10 mill..He's a guy that should be worth 5 mill a season until he proves he can stay healthy.
Nelson,Kerley,FA's Eric Decker & Jeremy Maclin, Kelvin Benjamin, Jordan Matthews(doubt he's there at 49) or Paul Richardson,DeVanta Adams,Jarvis Landry, or Martavis Bryant, along with Troy Niklas or c.J. Fiedorowicz or Arthur Lynch(take your pick)...(If we don't draft Eric Ebron(which personally I think he'll be gone...Pats probably trade up to take him from us{most likely with Dallas}..So we draft Kelvin Benjamin at 18, because A) I think he has the highest ceiling and B) Mike Evans(raven),Sammy watkins(top 7) and Marqise Lee(if Detroit doesn't take Evans I think they'll draft Lee and they should IMO. Along with Dri' Archer should be our offensive Weapons if things go my way. So if things DO go my way, (which I doubt) then the jets offense looks like this.. WR Depth Chart 1.Kelvin Benjamin/Eric Decker 2.Eric Decker Kelvin Benjamin 3.(slot) Kerley,Maclin,Dri' Archer(Archer could be our 3rd down back too) 4.Jordan Matthews,DaVanta Adams,Jarvis Landry,Paul Richardson, or Martavis Bryant 5.David Nelson 6.Stephen Hill TE Depth Chart 1.Eric Ebron/Troy Niklas/C.J. Fiedorowicz/Arthur Lynch 2.Jeff Cumberland/Zach Sudfeld .......That's a nice looking offense no matter how the top 3 draft picks go if they go anything like this IMO(based off the film i've watched on all these guys, they'd Gel pretty nicely together. It's a shame we'll have that Bum Geno Smith throwing to them though(When he isn't throwing it to the other team)
What people have to remember is that not every guy is a good fit for each system. First, Dez Bryant will not be a Jet, period. We would never break the bank in so many ways for one guy, it's not Idzik's style, and he'd be a pissed off WR playing in a run heavy offense. Maclin and Sanders are both good players, but they are both smaller guys and Sanders definitely benefits from Antonio Brown and Big Ben. Maclin may be cheap after being hurt but we also have no idea if he can come in and be anything close to a #1 WR. Decker is big and strong, and a very precise route runner with good hands. He is the perfect guy to play #1 WR in our run-heavy offense, and he and Kerley would be the main deep threats. Nelson would be WR 3, lining up mostly on the outside with Kerley moving to the slot on 3 WR formations. Hill would be a situational player unless he finally takes the next step and his upside makes him a better option than Nelson. I don't know how the draft will shake out but I'd really love to get Jace Amaro, with a TE like him we'd have a very reliable offense, and guys that can block on the outside and up the field for some Geno runs. I'd like to have Cumberland to start the season as TE 1 and then become a depth player as Amaro proves he is ready. I'd also want at least 1 more WR in the top 3 rounds for depth and the future. If I had the perfect draft, I'd get Amaro in the 1st, OLB Trent Murphy from Stanford in the 2nd, and a WR and maybe an O-linemen with our 2 3rd rounders. Can't ever hurt to stock up on linemen. All later round picks are the same to me, I don't expect an early producer with those picks so go for BPA and a project or two.
No he wasnt. But he wasnt great either. He was a cheap experienced veteran who was signed to man the position until we could find a more capable replacement. But by no means was he terrible.
the biggest problem with him was penalty's i'd say. otherwise he was average in terms of coverage. wouldn't mind bringing him back on a one year deal honestly, with the caveat that we need to find a permanent solution at RG besides him.
I agree...I love Jordan Matthews...I should've replaced him with Decker...and with Benjamin,Matthews,Kerley/Maclin, and Nelson we don't need Decker in that scenario (although he wouldn't hurt our offense any)
Decker absolutely hurts our offense because we'd be spending too much money on a position you don't need to spend too much money on. With a young QB, we need security blankets, not expensive WRs that put up gaudy stats because he's got Peyton Manning at the helm. Not to mention his constant mental lapses. We don't need to pay for that. Hell, we already paid for that when we extended Holmes. Geno or whoever our QB of the future is already has Kelley as a great slot WR and 3rd down target. We need an athletic TE that can serve as a solid check down. Doesn't have to be Ebron but that'd be preferred. Last but not least, Marty's offense needs a dynamic WR that runs crisp routes. Matthews sounds like our guy. If we can come out of the draft with two appropriate weapons for this offense and not blow a dollar on an overrated wr like Decker I'd be thrilled. Ebron and Matthews is probably a stretch but stranger things have happened. THEN with the extra cash we have since we didn't blow it on Decker, we can pay for guys that matter a little more, like offensive linemen or an up and coming OLB (not the expensive superstar name). You win in this league with 3 things... A good quarterback, protecting the quarterback, and getting to the quarterback. Everything else is superfluous to some extent and should be gotten cheap in my opinion.
Why would Decker come to the Jets after spending a year with the best passing offense in the NFL????? The Jets would have to massively overpay to even have a chance. He's already seen the dark side playing a season in Denver with Tebow. He's not coming here.
This is his first chance to cash in on a big contract. A lot of guys only get one chance. He's going to whoever offers him the best deal.
I don't agree about the effort, obviously. Holmes just hasn't been the same guy since the injury. Poor QB play makes him seem worse than he is, though. Tate seems very much like a "me me me" type of guy. I never really liked his antics although he has good ability and the price MIGHT be right. I'm not just referring to the Lee hit, btw. He gets away with a LOT of offensive PI and constantly taunts. He lets his emotions get the best of him. I wouldn't mind him on the Jets, just expect more penalties and expect the fanbase to start bashing him a la Holmes within a year or so.
i like maclin too..and hes prob the best fit out of everyone.. but hes a #2 at best and never had a 1000 yd season..i know hes had injurys but im also sure andy reid would like him and thats even a better fit for him...we need a #1 target not a #2.. unfortunetly at pick 18 a #1 isnt going to be there so i do think we should grab decker if we can.. he did have good #s with orton and tebow
At the right price Maclin would be an excellent addition to our receiving corp especially considering his familiarity with Mornhinweg, so I certainly wouldn't complain if we signed him. I just wouldn't be targeting him as my number 1 WR FA option, since we have a very similar player in Kerley. If/when we cut Holmes, I wouldn't be opposed to signing both he and Decker to give MM some variation. I just think Decker is the perfect addition to our passing game, with his consistency, size, hands, and blocking ability. Now I certainly understand the implications of way overpaying for a WR, so if the bidding gets out of control we should step out. I'd be willing to shell out 8-9 million a year to Decker, because I feel that we know exactly what we are getting. People keep saying he will want to stay in Denver, but he knows Peyton will only be there for the first year or two of his contract so it won't be enough of an incentive for him to go as low as Denver can afford. He only has time to sign one big contract, so he is going to go for it. Right now Rex has some draw to other FA's as it is common knowledge that his players absolutely love him, and although Cimini is full of crap it is true that Decker will get a nice little taste of both our facilities and the NYC life. Decker would be the number 1 receiver with us, and he has been a productive part of a run first offense before, and despite some of his performances, Geno is a better QB than Tebow and Decker knows it. Realistically we probably can't afford Decker and Maclin, so I'd rather have Decker of the two.
I think a 1 year deal is all he would get from any team... Now it's just a matter of how much guaranteed for the year? I think in the ball park of $2M guaranteed with a $1M performance bonus seems close to being right..
