And Doug Marrone's coaching tree starts. I'm really happy for coach Pettine. He deserves a shot and I hope he makes the most of this opportunity. Hopefully the Bills will promote either Jim O'neil or Donnie Henderson. We won't lose anything promoting from within. People laugh at Cleveland, but I actually think its a great situation. Already have a top 10 defense, have a really good o-line, a stud WR, stud TE... just need to grab a QB and RB. They certainly have the picks to do it. Pettine can really make this thing right in Cleveland.
Their defense is good, but the offense lacks a lot outside of Gordon. They are set up nicely to draft a QB, a second receiver or TE to add a passing threat, and a stud RB.
You dont like Jordan Cameron? Dude had 80 rec., 917 yds, 7 tds in his first year as a full-time starter, with like 4 different shitty Qbs.
I can't tell if Bills homer is just trolling trying to start fighting, or if he truly believes Pettine got this job because of 1 year of being with Buffalo, instead of his coaching career as a whole. But anyway, yeah Cameron is a solid TE. I owned him in 2 leagues this year, and although frustrating, he is a much better option than any of the meek TE's in our division.
It was implied in the "Doug Marrone coaching tree" comment. Hopefully, there's enough of Rex Ryan's essence left by Pettine at Orchard Park that the Bills defense doesn't go in the tank again. Maybe check Pettine's office chair for some of the vapors that dragged the Bills defense into respectability! Quick! Before it's all gone!
The Browns have talent, the biggest problem is their QB situation and their Front Office is run by a clueless morons known as Joe Banner
Pettine is from both trees. He came to Cleveland from directly under Marrone. That doesn't mean Rex had nothing to do with his development. You Jets fans are so sensitive.
He's been with Rex since 2001. He's been Rex right hand man since 2005, when Rex became Baltimore's DC. So 13 years with Rex vs 1 year of same position under Marrone. It's clearly a coach from Rex's branch, and to suggest otherwise is plain idiotic (or trolling). Really he used Buffalo to show he can stand up on his own. I'm kind of surprised it worked so quickly. Part of me would like to see him succeed. Another part of me feels he is a guy that cannot be trusted, and sort of rubs me the wrong way. Either way, I'm glad he's out of the division entirely.
I was a bit worried that the Bills would see an ownership transition all of a sudden and Pettine would emerge as the head coach and torment us for a while. Belichik has left scars on me in that regard. As much as I respect what Ralph Wilson has done with the Bills during his tenure he's clearly the problem right now.
If you listened to Pettine's opening press conference (which you didnt) Pettine gave Marrone much more credit for the head coaching move than Rex. He said that Rex taught him some schemes, but Marrone taught him how to be a leader and run an organization, which kind of struck me as an insult to Rex. Anyway, he continued on to say that he and Rex are complete opposites, etc. I think the only thing that, in your words is idiotic, is to suggest that Marrone had no influence in Pettine's development and promotion to a head coach. Schemes are nice, but coaching a team, becoming a leader, and running an organization is completely different. He learned that from Marrone, and that prepared him for this gig and made him attractive in interviews to others around the league. Both Rex and Marrone contributed greatly to Pettine success. I feel a little like kids fighting over a lollipop.
Pettine is a better coach than Marrone. Buffalo hired the wrong guy in the first place. They should've flipped script and offered Pettine THEIR HC job when it was obvious he was leaving for Cleveland. Pettine will make Jim O'Neil Buffalo's LB coach his D coordinator I bet. Then Buffalo loses him as well. I would not be surprised if our Jets lose some people off of their staff, as well.
Marrone gave him a chance to get out of rex's shadow which he needed. when Rex was running our Ds our Ds were better than when Pettine took over play calling. He needed to prove he could do it on his own and he did a great job.
