The running back position has been devalued as of late the past couple of years in the NFL Draft with teams passing more and running two back systems. There are two running backs that I feel can make an immediate impact in Ka'Deem Carey and Bishop Sankey in the second round possibly. Ivory had a good season but I always feel like he will just have another hamstring injury. Powell has been okay but not spectacular and Goodson will be coming back from an injury and hopefully no more off the field mess. The JETS will need to get as many explosive players for the offense at WR, TE, and RB. What do you guys think about either Carey or Sankey in the second round?
Once Melvin Gordon III announced he would return to school, I lost all interest in this year's RB class. It's probably the weakest position group in this year's draft.
Like both backs that you mentioned as well as Thomas from Oregon and Sims from WVU all four would be a perfect third down back which we don't have.
Why do we need a running back.. We have Ivory, Powell and Goodson.. As good a running back group as any in the league..
Why waste a second round pick on a running back? We need recievers and tight ends... We are set at running back for the next 3+ years.
We don't need a guy like Hyde. If Goodson is healthy and not suspended we won't need one at all but if he's not around we need a guy that can catch the ball out of the backfeild. Every guy that's been talked about in this thread would be a great 3-6 round pick and also become the return man.
Seastrunk is a game changer at RB; he is a threat to take it to the house whenever he touches the ball. We do not have that. Furthermore, Powell is a FA after next season and Goodson will likely be released next season. Early on Seastrunk can contribute as a 3rd down back and a PR/KR (our return game is hot trash).
Give me Isaiah Crowell in the 5th round (and Ive been the biggest proponent of drafting an RB high on this board for some time now)
I like both RBs, but not enough to take them in the 2nd round. Seastrunk is a good RB, so is Tre Mason. I've seen a bunch of good looking RBs in the many bowl games I've seen. I don't know which of them will enter the draft, but there will be good RBs that can be found later in the draft. There almost always are.
Running back is a position we have little to no need at. If a value find is there in the mid to late rounds sure, but no need to spend a first or second day pick on one.
If the Jets are going to upgrade running back it should be for a guy who pass blocks well and could catch 60+ passes out of the backfield. I like the guys they have for the other roles. Powell is just a little bit short of being the guy I listed above. Richie Anderson II. That's the upgrade we need.
Melvin Gordon was the best RB in this class and he stupidly went back to school lol. Carey was my 2nd rated RB all year and probably will fall into the 2nd or early 3rd come draft time.If he falls in the 3rd I'm all for drafting him. Goodson should be cut, injury plus a weapons charge is a little too much for me. Powell is ok and Ivory played like a man the last half of the season but he is an injury concern, so if Carey is available in the 3rd I'm all for him.
I agree with nesquik. My ideal first 3 rounds would be: 1 Clinton Dix 2 Allen Robinson 3 Carey 3b deone bucannon/Craig Loston
Ivory and Powell put up respectable numbers for an offense with no real receiving threats. Get a FA WR, draft a TE and WR in round 1 &2, OL in the 3rd, add Goodson to the mix and you have a solid run game.
