I wanted to start a discussion over our Unrestricted Free Agents. Who do you want back of this bunch?

    Austin Howard
    Jeff Cumberland
    Willie Colon
    Calvin Pace
    David Garrard
    Ed Reed
    Kellen Winslow
    Josh Cribbs
    Nick Folk
    Vladimir Ducasse
    Josh Mauga
    Lex Hilliard
    Leger Douzable
    Darius Reynaud
    Jermaine Cunningham
    Ellis Lankster
    Aaron Berry

    For me, it's:

Long term contracts-Howard and Folk (both very deserving)
Short term contracts (for example, the vet minimum on 1 yr deals)-Colon, Cribbs, Douzable, Lankster, Pace, Reed, Cumberland
Goners-Garrard, Winslow, Ducasse, Mauga, Hilliard, Reynaud, Cunningham, Berry

I'd like to keep Reed because I think he can still excel on 3rd downs and provides great mentoring and leadership to young guys like Milliner and Allen. I think Cumberland is best used as a 2nd TE and wouldn't mind him back. Even though Pace had 10 sacks, I still think he's best used on 3rd downs as a pass rusher. Cribbs, Douzable, Lankster, and Colon all played well this year when healthy and should be cheap depth signings.

    Thoughts?

I wouldn't give Folk a multi year contract. He was good this year , but he's never been that good before. How do we know that he won't go back to his old self? If he wants much more than minimum, I wouldn't even take him on a 1 year contract.

I thought Cribbs did a really nice job for us. Closest thing we've had to Brad Smith who was a nice gadget player for us.

They need to lock Howard up, Colon can be upgraded. Wouldn't be bad if they brought him back but they can do better.

    Folk should obviously be signed.

Pace and Reed on one year deals would be fine, not a big deal if we lose either player though.

I'd bring back Cumberland, he's got some explosiveness to him at the tight end spot. I really want the Jets to look into drafting either Ebron or Amaro in the draft, Cumberland would make a nice backup for either one.

Austin Howard - The only one deserving of a long term deal IMO.
    Jeff Cumberland
    Leger Douzable
    Nick Folk

    Lankster, Mauga, Berry for minimum.

Ellis Lankster should get a lifetime contract just for this tackle...

Howard, Folk, Cumberland, Pace,Douzable and maybe Colon. Reed is old and we need to develop a younger guy . Those are the only 5 id even consider but if we only brought back Folk,Cumberland, Howard id be ok with that.Pace might try and get one last decent contract from another team if we low ball him witch I'm sure we will.Cribbs was a stop gap kick returner and he is washed up.Garrard is a waste of roster space,Aaron Berry is always hurt.So I only see us bringing back 3 or 4 of our own

I only really care about Howard, Cumberland and Folk.

I'd be happy to have Pace back as well (at a low cost), but perhaps cutting him one year too early is better than one year too late.

I am surprised that Pace had 10 sacks yet no one seems to care enough to give him a 2-3 year deal for any real money.

Also, Cumberland wasn't anything special this year. I am not sure that I would take him over Winslow.

Anybody who objectively watched Pace this year will tell you they were 10 very unspectacular sacks. We need true speed on the edge that will force the QB to move up in the pocket quickly right into the arms of Wilk/Sheldon not a guy who gets a bunch of coverage sacks.

I like Austin HOward, Jeff Cumberland and I wouldn't mind having Vlad around as an allpurpose backup (for cheap, of course).

On defense Douzable is the only one that has shown me anything. Oh yeah, Lankster is pretty good, too

Pace on the vet minimum is cool, he quietly had a solid season.

Reed openly said if the team welcomed him back, he would continue to play (but that retirement is also an option).
Cribbs hopes to return as well.

Reed is good to bring is as a back-up at the vet minimum. He shouldn't be starting.

because he isnt a 3 down player anymore, and not many of those sacks really had a big impact. when all you do is rush the passer and get a few gimmies its not all that impressive.

i wouldnt want him back, regardless of the deal

Aaron Berry would have made the secondary at least look like a respectable one. We took a major loss with his injury.
