I think that 8 hours after the conclusion of the final regular season game might be a tad early for pinning down the final roster of the 2014 team....has the charter flight even landed from.Miami yet?..
They better get the secondary straitened out since they will be facing Brady (2), Manning, Rodgers, Cutler, Stafford, Roethlisberger, Rivers and Alex Smith.
With the addition of a new safety and corner, at least a wide receiver and possibly a TE? 10-6, and far less blowouts. If the o-line gets stronger too? The sky is the limit.
Cant say for sure about next year. If geno progresses and we fix the cb and saftey position. We csn contend for a wc spot. 9 or 10 wins maybe 11 if all goes well
I'm excited for next season. Hoping for 2 or more additional wins and (finally) a division title but I really want to see the team take another step forward by: (i) becoming more dangerous/explosive on offense; (ii) the defense getting better at getting off the field on third down and preventing big plays; (iii) continuing to develop a younger/deeper roster. Time for Idzik to earn his money this off-season by finding the playmakers and DBs the Jets will need to achieve these goals.
Gotta see what this team adds and how our guys improve Geno, Coples, Milliner, Hill and Winters are the 5 guys I will probably track most Geno- footwork, accuracy, timing and decision making Coples- burst, pursuit and hand use Milliner- can he shadow receivers and continue improving his ball skills Hill- can get open and take the top off of defenses Winters- can he hold his own so Brick and Mangold can get back to their consistent selves
The answer to that question is too obvious to just about everyone on the planet. Geno Smith Backed up by Matt Simms and a mid round draft pick or a cheap vet pickup
I am very happy w/ the way Geno ended the year, he really grew up. My hope is that continues into next year and beyond. I fully expect w/ all the cap room and picks we will have some weapons for him next year and assuming Marty is back that will be huge for his development.
I don't know the exact numbers but I think we were ranked 11th in overall defense and 25th in overall offense. We won 8 games with an offense that bad. I think it's safe to say that if we had even an average offense we would have made the playoffs this year. At this point it's a bit early to provide expectations for the 2014 season but I'll give my expectations for the offseason, once the roster is in place I'll think about win/loss projections: -hopefully improve our defense, especially in the secondary, a top 10 defense would be great but even just doing enough to maintain our current ranking would be enough -I would like to see us bring in some help at S and maybe OLB although I'd like to see what Barnes can do as he looked good prior to his injury and Coples got better and better as the season went on -help on CB depending on if Cro is coming back or not, I was happy to see some progress with Milliner, hopefully with a full offseason not hampered by surgeries and whatnot he'll be able to pick up where he left off -improving the offense into at least an average if not above average offense. It's sad that I consider that a stretch to do as we'd have to move up approximately a dozen spots in the ranking but I think it is possible -fixing the offense is going to include signing/drafting some WR and TE help, wouldn't miss Holmes if they cut him either -cutting Sanchez and bringing in a veteran backup to help Geno. I wouldn't be against drafting a QB as well but I think they should give Geno a shot next year with a rebuilt offense and see what he can do with some weapons.
austin howard needs to be re signed. and everyone forgets about aaron berry. he was having a good camp and probably would have been cb2 if he hadn't gotten injured. get a wr in f.a. and another through the draft and 10-6 is within reach
