Of course it's not ideal and trust in your RB (Ivory, Powell, Goodson if he's back) should be the priority, but is it so far fetched to always consider putting in a guy like Richardson in on real-short yard down situations, whether it be down the field/goal line? Pretty damn hard to tackle a guy of his size. If he happened to pick up a second TD against Miami, he would have the NFL record for rushing TDs by a DL. Would love to see him called upon more next season, or a player alike.
I like it as a one-off thing when it matters but don't really like it as an every-week thing, especially considering the guy's an every-down starter and pretty important to the D. I don't want him banging heads five times a week on offense too. Ideally you'd rather entrust that role to some DT backup that's also hard to stop, or an actual FB.
eh, goal line and game on the line scenarios are probably the only times youll see something like this. cant trust him to hold onto the ball. i get that hes stronger than any runningback, but, hes not a runningback and there are definitely guys out there strong enough to rip it away from him if hes not holding on the right way (3 points of pressure and all that) fumble in the endzone is still a td and on 4th down its the same as if you got stuffed (unless of course it gets returned for a td, but then thats why you would only do it in an all or nothing situation)
They flashed on the screen today that he had the most rushing TD's for a defensive lineman since the fridge.
Well, he is tied with Perry for most rushing TDs by a defensive lineman in regular season play. Of course, Perry also accomplished the feat in postseason play. James Jones, Shaun Smith and B.J. Raji are the other defensive linemen who have scored rushing touchdowns.
I played Richardson at DL on one of my fantasy teams and he payed off today thanks to that TD! It's smart against teams who are stout up front (ie Panthers and Dolphins) in goal & short scenarios. MM & RR = Geniuses
Manish Mehta Asked Sheldon Richardson if he should be Def Rook of Yr: "I am that. I am that even if I don’t win it. You can’t tell me anything different" 5:47PM EST Love it
I am ok w/ the GL runs, I hated seeing him in the game late when the game was in hand in a non GL situation. The last thing we need is for this guy to have a serious injury in a meaningless moment.
Sheldon is quick, with a burst. That's the reason. I hear you though. Last thing we need is him getting banged-up on a carry.
Snacks, Ellis, and Sheldon combo was amazing. That's some serious beef for a LB to contend with! Not to mention Colon, Howard, and Mangold in front of them...
I like that he is lined up as a FB. He actually blocked earlier in the season for a Powell or Ivory score. I say on Goal line attempts bring this beast in.
