Would a quality HC even want to come to the Jets?

    Jets, Jets

I saw my first Jets game in 1965. Since then they have had many coaches. I really don't see what is so special about Rex. There are no secrets in the NFL. Rob Ryan and Mike Pettine know everything Rex knows. Everyone sees the same film. If Idzik thinks he has a good coach now he will remain. If he thinks the team need a different emphasis say someone who is better at bringing along a QB he should go with that. The GM has to do what he feels is right for the team. That is why he was hired. You win with players and the old coach or a new one will be looking hard for them. Stop the love affair with Rex it's getting old.

I get very nervous when it comes to the Belichick coaching tree. If Rex were to get fired he would be worth the look. So there's one potential candidate, if he decides to take a job else-where we are screwed then - I want nothing to do with Dave Bevell or Roman.

Well we will see what will transpire over the new few months.

I keep seeing this on this board. What makes everyone say the jets have a "great" defense? The jets defense isnt even ranked in the top 10.

I dont know how you define "great", but to me, you've got to be top 3, at least.

Why? Rex hasn't even won the AFC East.

I'm not opposed to keeping Rex, but he hasn't coached the team to the playoffs in 3 years. So many people act like he's won multiple VLT's.

Its not about the championships. Its about risk vs reward.
A new coach has got to better the Jets' record in 2014.
The new guy will have no room for error.

Unless you think we're getting a so-called "proven" commodity,
like Cowher or Gruden ( which I don't advocate nor can I even conceive it)
why bring a new, untested guy in here just because he's Idzik's guy?

The Jets job is a pretty appealing job imo. The owner is willing to spend money, is not involved much, its NY, etc.

I think a lot of the jobs are great in the NFL in general. Even teams with bad culture can get changed in an instant. Look how quickly the 49ers went from being a "meh" type of team to one of the most appealing and popular teams. Look at Carolina, they went from "meh" to now they are the place to be. You can turn any franchise around like that including Jacksonville, winning does it. Winning establishes the team to.

The guy I was responding to would disagree with you. I think I might too. The name of the game is winning the VLT. That's the only reason they play. It's Idzik's job to come up with a plan that will get the team playing at a high level for years, and to be a serious challenger for the VLT. Every GM wants a HC he trusts, feels comfortable with, believes will produce a winner, and knows they're on the same page with types of players, etc.

I have no clue what Idzik will decide to do. I'd prefer a HC with experience, although I'm not sure who that would be. I don't think either Cowher or Gruden will take another team, but who knows? Idzik might decide to keep Rex, or Woody may force him to. Idzik might hire someone from Seattle or reach into the collegiate ranks. I think it all depends upon what Woody's expectations are. If Idzik convinced Woody that due to the talent shortage on the team, it was going to take at least 3 drafts and FA periods before the team would really be competitive, then Idzik might hire someone who he thinks will do a great job in developing the younger players for 2015 and beyond, and not be all that concerned with the W-L record in 2014. Then again, Woody might have had unreasonably high expectations for this season, and really expect the team to play at a high level next season.

I think whether or not Woody has stepped back and is willing to trust Idzik no matter what his decision is and is willing to be patient if necessary will go a long way in determining what Idzik does with the HC position.

Maybe the NY teams swap coaches. That would boggle the mind.

    1. Jets are, as you can see, talent depleted. Unless you love going through losing seasons [which will be minimum 3 years - hell, T-Bomb fucked it up for over almost a full fucking decade. 3 seasons would be cutting it very short] you are passing it.

    2. And there is Belichick factor - and Brady to worry about. How does it feel to get reamed up in your ass twice a season for the next few foreseeable future?

    3. And there are a lot of teams with a lot more talent [that happen to underachieve.] Take Texans for instance. They might need to draft a franchise QB, but Schaub can hold the fort for the next two to three years all right, and offense isn't depleted exactly either. And the defense is loaded too.

So, if I am one of these hot-shot prospect for HC candidacy, I am passing NYJ for now. I would have too much to lose but too little to gain by coming in New York. Beating Belichick-led Patriots with this joke of a roster is near impossible, with Geno at QB. Are ya fucking kidding me?

The last thing we need is an offensive coordinator who has built his name on the back of an exceptional quarterback, unless he's bringing that quarterback with him.

Yes. We have very good players in our front 7 (Wilkerson, Harrison, Richardson and Coples would do well with any coordinator that plays a 34D + Harris, Pace and Davis have been solid this year).

I believe some offensive guru would be more than willing to take a shot at trebuilding our O while knowing our D will have his back.

Promote Karl Dunbar. Or go after Wade Phillips if he's let go. I'd imagine most any competent 3-4 DC could be successful with our front 7. It's not like Rex has our D dominant anyway.

It's a lot easier to follow a 3 non playoff season coach, than it is to come in after a winner. We have a solid foundation on D, a ton of money and 13 picks. Other than NE, we have a bad conference to play in and NE has shown they are not the team they once were. Hell, 9 wins gets us in the playoffs in the AFC most years.
Yeah, I can see a HC liking that scenario. He'll get a first year pass, so really he has 2 drafts to build a team around our defense before he is expected results... and with Jet fans, the bar is low as far as results go.

Our D is a WIP, this time next year, I reckon we're looking at super dominant

Yeah when we can have a DC who built his name on the back of Ray Lewis, Suggs and Ed Reed. -- Too bad he brought Bart Scott with him instead of Lewis and Ed Reed 4 years too late.

Seattle's OC might like working with Idzik? I can see Bevell coming here.

Too bad we went to 2 back to back championship games as well, with a rookie QB and a D that is arguably not as good as the one we have now
