The New England dynasty lost some of its shine thanks to “Spygate.” It’s been six years since the Patriots were caught taping the practice of an opponent, but some teams are still suspicious.

Antonio Smith said it was "very suspicious" that #Patriots were prepared in the first half for new defensive calls the #Texans had this week

Antonio Smith says Texans put N specific calls they haven't used B4 that NE was ready for: "Either teams R spying on us or scouting us(more)

The Patriots defeated the Texans 34-31 Sunday, but didn’t get there the easy way. That’s why Smith’s claim is sort of odd: the Patriots trailed the Texans 17-7 at halftime, and certainly weren’t playing like they knew what was coming.

Smith made sure to qualify his statements, and his meaning wasn’t all that clear.

Antonio Smith: "It could just be good film study. But like I said, very suspicious."

Antonio Smith: "Second half, we just went on and decided to just line up. They kinda went away from it."

So maybe the Patriots learned the Texans NEW defensive calls by watching video of OLD games? Is that what Smith is trying to propose?

Once the Texans decided to “just line up,” the Patriots made a second-half comeback. Perhaps sticking with the calls the Patriots knew would have worked better.

The evidence presented by the play on the field doesn’t very well support Smith’s claim, so it will be interesting to watch the story develop. Will he double down on the accusation, or back off and claim he was taken out of context? How will his teammates and coaches respond?

Either way, we know this much: there’s still a belief among some in the NFL that the Patriots are cheating — or at least the understanding that vague charges of spy-like activity can serve as an excuse/way to take the attention away from the dismal season your team is having.

2nd week running the Pats have come back BIG time. These kind of late rallies are rare, but we're talking Belichick and Brady here. It looks sus but reckon its because they played their socks off

Not second week: third week. Did they same thing against the NFLs best D in Carolina the week before the Denver game.

Their success rate on first drives after the half has to be the biggest statistical anomaly in the sport.

The Pats team we see to start games is the one that features Julian Edelman as its best skill player, and two rookie white dudes starting at DT. Aka the real Pats.

The Pats team we see after half is the one where all those crap players suddenly look good bc their coaches know every single thing they are being shown, after spying all the calls the first half.

Nothing else even remotely makes sense. Their home record is also a statistical anomaly in modern NFL (salary cap era), and that's bc they can more effectively spy in their own house.

There is no other way to explain why this team under any circumstances has a down year. Oh and Belichick isn't the only proven cheater there; Josh McDaniels was caught as well.

What a dopey thing to say. They were either spying or scouting. It's the NFL you retard, of course they were scouting.

teams don't open their practices up to opponents to scout them. that is the point, he said these were plays they had never used before and only used at practice.

problem with his rationale is if they had never seen them, how did they cheat? what exactly is he accusing them of doing that is cheating?

Apparently, every team that the Texans played this year has spied on their defense and their offense.

This spying thing is getting out of hand.

I dont see why anyone would give the patriots the benefit of the doubt.Watching the games esp the last 3 they look like they know the plays. Yes even against denver watch them compared to other teams they anticipate everything, some of that could be good coaching but its at a level that is unnatural. Every team does homework but when players who suck (replasing injuries) always seem to know where to go it does get fishy.

Antonio sounds like my ex in court throwing out any shit she could to see if it sticks.
With all the scrutiny the Pats have been under really? Did the other nine teams who beat the Texans cheat too?

I find it hard to believe the Pats, if they were cheating, would get caught using it to their advantage against the Texans. Would be a bad waste of resources

I hate the patsies with a passion, but I got to kind of call bullshit here.

First, their home record isn't really a statistical anomaly as much as you say. Since 2002 and the new division format they are 1st, but its not far and away an anomaly. They are tops at 83%, ravens 76% colts 73%. Steelers 73%.. Someone has to be first and it's them.. All but the ravens of those teams had great QBs in this era, which isn't a coincidence. The patsies win because they have the best QB of the generation. The Pats are also tops on the road.it just suggests they've had great teams overall, not a surprise, but also nothing can be gleaned that's fishy...

As for their ability to come back in games.. It has mostly to do with having Brady at QB as well. You can only shut him down for so long and he can make most any receiving corps effective over the course of four quarters. Combine that with a coach who i dont think is God like many people, but i will recognize his biggest strength is and was always being good at making adjustments on the fly, we saw that first hand here and that's why they are never out of games.

Now if you want to argue they get the benefit of the doubt in most cases from the stripes, I'm all ears, because I believe that's true. But great players usually do get the benefit of the doubt from the officials. Montana got it, MJ in basketball, Gretzky in hockey.... It's natural when u are unsure of a call to err on the side of reputation..

But I don't think that hooded bastard is cheating. He would be stupid to do so after spy gate.

Don't forget to add Ted Williams to your list of great players who got the benefit of the doubt.

One anecdote that I heard is that Ted Williams was batting and the Umpire called a close pitch a ball. The Catcher complained: "What was wrong with that pitch?" The Umpire replied: " He didn't swing at it. When the Pitcher throws a strike, Williams will let you know."

I dont believe they view it stupid at all. I think they have a cheating process that has been proven successful in the past. They are trying to get a high seed so no game is worthless. In the past they have been accused of tanpering with headsets esp at home, keeping there headsets on longer than they are supposed to, taping things including walkthru's. Brady is a great QB but his adjustments are night and day sometimes. Remember he wasnt saying they just knew old plays he said they knew right away how to attack brand new plays. Are there other possible reason; sure, but is it possible he was stating the truth i would say absolutly!
