Those two penalty gift wins for a lesser record but a higher draft position in the first round and possibly being in the sweepstakes for a true blue-chip Qb or WR? Try to keep emotions in check as I expect the usual "you're not a fan" nonsense if you'd take the losses. Think long term. Play chess instead of checkers for once. Ask yourselves which option would be better for the team..
I always root for the Jets to win but knowing what we know now it would obviously be better for the team to have a shot at a higher draft pick.
I'm with Parcells on this... If they keep score, I wanna win. We've sucked before and it got us nowhere, there's a good chance we pick the wrong guy in the draft anyway.
always root for wins, good organizations can find talent not matter where they draft and bad ones can screw up picks no matter where they draft.
MHO is it really does not matter because we would screw up the DP anyway due to the incompetence of the GM & the R & D dept.
no we aren't but assuming you think we are bad then why would you want us to have a higher pick? that just means we'll screw up a higher pick.
This is where I fall. No matter the situation, I can never root for the Jets to lose. I just can't. That being said, I realize that ultimately losing out at this point and getting a higher pick (if they picked correctly), could help to turn the team around faster.
At this point, the Jets have little to no shot of making the playoffs...I say we tank not because I care about the draft pick...But the odds of landing a franchise type game-changer is more likely...Especially if it is a quarterback. The Jets for some odd reason are still in the race for worst in NFL... Question - Going into last week of the season, if it was down to us and Houston for the worst record in the NFL and the opportunity to get the top pick do you lose the game? Come draft time Bridgewater will be the #1 pick now that Mariotta is out...I want offense, but my god we can never figure out the QB position unless its a no-brainer choice
i'd prefer to lose every game like i'd prefer to have AJ green compared to jonathan baldwin and thats basically what it boils downt o
Wins I don't see drafting earlier a particular advantage to us (Milliner & Gholston are two recent examples; even D'Brick @ 4 could be argued) And, if you want a hint of the problems caused in a QB rich draft, look at 1983 2 busts 3 HOFers 1 tweener(KOB) Both busts were taken early Plus finishing strong doesn't hurt
Gimme the W. All these losses keep showing our ENTIRE offense needs replacing. If we can put some points on the board with this offense and get some wins, it means the coaching staff is learning to use the strengths of each player to win games and that there is hope for the future with the improvement of just a couple positions.
A higher draft pick of course. You don't get participation awards for finishing 8-8. However you have a good shot of building long term success for this franchise if you hit the jackpot with a high draft pick. Especially in a rebuilding season like this. Gotta think Long term sustainability and success.
I would gladly sacrifice one season or the rest of any season for a chance at that one franchise blue chip QB and be competitive for the next 10-15 years. That being said, you never know what your going to get in the draft though. :shit:
Most of the time the wins argument is empty. Of course, that's what fans want, but it isn't necessarily what's best for the team. I've seen numerous articles over the years pointing out how it's much easier for a 3-13 team to turn things around and become a contender than it is for an 8-8 team. Too many wins, yet not enough to make the playoffs can lead to perpetual mediocrity, especially if your team doesn't have a franchise QB. I think the only time the "wins" argument holds any water is when a team has a lot of good, young talent and has their franchise QB in place, and they just have to develop confidence and learn how to win. Then winning games can help build confidence for the future. If a team doesn't have the necessary talent (especially at QB) in place to become a true competitor, then those extra wins can actually hamper, if not prevent, the team from getting the talent it needs to move to the next level.
Mo Wilk at the end of the first. Dee Milliner at the beginning of the first. I want every win we can get I dont care about draft positioning until the season is over. You can get talent anywhere.
