Something that Ive seen mentioned a lot is the sentiment that its amazing Rex has won this many games with the offense that we currently have... Rex is a big part of the reason why our offense is in such shambles. He is a defensive minded coach, and it shows in the way the resources of the team have been used (FA and especially draft picks). We have spent the last 5 1st round picks on defensive players (Wilson, Wilkerson, Coples, Milliner, Richardson). Now, some of them have certainly paid off, but there has to be a point in time where he and the organization realize that the offense needs the same amount of attention. The defense has been the strong point since Rex got here, and ever since then most of the resources have been put into it while the offense is left starved of talent. The biggest resource that has been put into the offense in the last 5 years is Stephen Hill, and he is terrible. Rex is certainly to blame for some of the offenses troubles. This team threw a rookie QB into the least talented offense in the NFL while spending two top 13 picks on the defense. I wont be disappointed if Rex is gone and an offensive minded coach is brought in with the mindset of rebuilding the offensive side of the ball.
Jets, Jets The Stanford Coach would be a place to start. He has NFL experience and is the son of an NFL coach. There are many good candidates out there. Just need to do some homework.
Didn't Woody Johnson do his homework with Rex Ryan? David Shaw does have a lot of experience - I really like that guy, if we replace Rex with anyone it would be him and only him. It would take a lot of convincing for that to happen and PATIENCE by the Fan-base. I have no faith in Shaw coming here.
That's why it doesn't matter who we get in, although a lot of us have been waiting for ages, the constant HC carousel is partly why we are where we are. This fan base is its own worst enemy Sent from my wey aye phone using Tapatalk - now Free
I don't know if Rex should get any credit for winning 1 game with Geno. You figure one game could be won by accident. But I must admit I don't know how he won 5 games with this roster and Smith as the QB. I suppose we underestimated how many awful teams are out there in the NFL. We thought beating ATL, NE, and the Saints was all a big deal as it was happening. Yet, the Falcons have shown they are terrible, the Saints were man handled by a REAL team last night, and NE has no defense and would be an also ran in the NFC. We have to face it. The pundits were right. This team going into 2014 was a glorified expansion team.
Great post, and one that those who keep up with the nonsense of crediting Ryan with winning with a sucky O need to read and reread and reread again until they get it. One caveat is I don't know just how much input Ryan has had, and ftr another second round pick on O was VD, who was awful, but he did come via the second round. But yes, the Jet draft has been too top heavy with defensive players. Maybe Rex feels his foray into making offensive picks was so disastrous when he traded up to get Muck that he only feels comfortable picking players on D. but whatever the reason it is no accident that the Jets do not have strong personnel on O. Ryan's hands are all over that, and he deserves to be called on it.
It's sad that the last time the Jets offense was exciting to watch was when Brett Favre was QB (for 12 weeks anyway). Then again, even the Sanchez run offense with the Thomas Jones/Shonn Greene combo stuffing the ball down everyone's mouths was more exciting than this.
Bevell is the current flavor of the month, so maybe, one of the Gruden boys? I guess, I'll just trust Idzik to bring in the right guy, because I'm freakin' clueless.
Cmon NYJ fans we live in a country in which there are around 300 million people. Do you think in a gene pool that size there is not a better HC out there just waiting to be hired? If Woody/our GM would really care he would today be conducting a nationwide HC search to find the very best HC he can. Remember I posted that we would be wandering in the cellar for at least the next 10 years from the 500 season onwards which would next year be 4 years which shows just how little Woody cares about losing
+1. Just to clarify, Bevell's been the flavor since late last year lol. From this little blurb, t seems like he built the offense to suit the personnel, which is kind of like how Rex built the defense. Then again, my football knowledge is about kindergarten level compared to folks on this board, much less Idzik. I'll trust him to make the right call.
It's that easy isn't it? Why not aim higher? I say we go after Brees, Brady AND (not or) Rodgers. The only problem then would be who do we start. I guess it will depend on the match-up.
I'm not sure Woody really cares about winning. Not with the decisions he makes, and his hiring history. Idzik is a yes sir kind of guy. Keeping Rex shows that. He wanted a new stadium, then to host a Super Bowl. He will make a lot of money from that. Rex keeps the Jets on the backpage, and that makes him happy. If the attendance gets bad enough he will start loosing money. Then we will see some change...Maybe He can always try to move the team, with no attendance he might get approval from the NFL. That's way out there, but you never know. No sane business man would run a team like this. Rough times ahead.
Mangini - he is a good builder. Look what Rex did his first 2 seasons with Mangini built team. So let him rebuild and then he can be fired for someone to get us over the hump.
look at what Cle has done w/ the team Mangini built there. he gets way too much credit for building those teams.
If he wanted to take a more prestigious job, he would have taken the USC job this year. I could be wrong, but I don't see him going anywhere.
