whats goin on everyone... i do not post on here often, but i look and read everyones opinions everyday. but ill start with this, i have no idea where this team can go now,to me there are a few options a. keep rex, marty and co. and try to build the offense with a free agent qb..i dont think there is anyway rex will survive with a another rookie qb. b. sign a offensive coach like darrell bevell draft a qb and keep dennis thurman to have continuity with the defense c. sign a defensive coach like mike zimmern/ray horton, draft a qb..and keep marty d. and i know some might want a cower/jon gruden...only way they go to a team with a qb. and a win now team (like chiefs roster last year) its goin to be very easy for idzik to not take the blame for this mess.. this wasnt his coaching and scouting staff. woody should have either let mike tannenbaum and rex go another year, or let idzik pick his coach from the get and rebuild... this year was the exact same as last year and found nothing new about this team... anyway... im just curious to know what everyones thoughts on this subject since it will be a hot one till the season ends..IMO i would go with my option A. but at the same time... this team needs a change.......
Keep Rex and co together another year. Add a free agent QB like Cutler or even Bradford. Add some skill players like Nicks and Pettigrew, bring in a vet oline player. Draft another receiver in round 1, round 2 OLB, round 3 FS and oline.
hahaha great thread title  Take a deep breath kid. Some guys have been fans since the 70's & 80's and have never seen the Jets lift a Lombardi. Something tells me the wait is going to continue much longer. Just find humor, laugh and enjoy the roller coaster disaster that is the Jets.
I agree with keeping the core coaches together Cutler and Bradford - pipe dreams. Skill players are key - one WR has to be a vet in FA i think and one via the draft, top TE in the draft would be key, a serious backfield passing threat - that is really lacking on the Jets since LT left.
would love cutler... i remember we were thinking of trading for him but did not want to give up the two first round picks for him... thinking back... those 1st picks ended up being mark sanchez and kyle wilson... who knows what would have happened
I'd like to see a full year of the trio of Ivory/Powell/Goodson. If we can't get Cutler we need to make a play for the best available QB. I know a guy like Schaub might be damaged goods but it would be worth a shot IMO. The receiving corp needs to be addressed they need to attack this need this offseason. A combo of a young vet like Maclin or Nicks to go along with one of the stud receivers in the '14 draft would be good. Lol I'd gladly give up those 2 first round picks if it meant not having either of those guys.
Who from the FA list below do you want and has a realistic chance of getting? Derek Anderson Jimmy Clausen Jay Cutler Jordan Palmer Josh McCown Trent Edwards Shaun Hill Matt Flynn Seneca Wallace Chad Henne Pat Devlin Joe Webb Josh Freeman Luke McCown Curtis Painter David Garrard Michael Vick Charlie Whitehurst Tarvaris Jackson Colt McCoy Kellen Clemens Dan Orlovsky Rusty Smith Rex Grossman I may be wrong but at first glance I think we have a QB on the roster with more playoff wins than anyone on that list. Interesting thought; I wonder if Thurman would stay if Rex was let go. Money talks so it's probably possible. This seems a bit crazy to me. Why make such a drastic change to the best unit on the team and not the worst? I don't think our roster is that far away. The defense is very young and will only get better. Then, on offense we have a solid running game. We just need some talent at the WR position and, at the very least, efficiency at QB. When Gruden took over the Bucs, they were stout defensively but far from an offensive juggernaut. Even when they won the SB under Gruden, they were not that offensively. Gruden didn't have a franchise QB either. He won with Brad Johnson. Don't know anyone should be blamed. This is not a playoff roster. 5 wins up to this point is probably overachievement. This past offseason, Idzik made a conscious decision not to address the WR situation, one of the biggest issues we have had the last couple of years. Only he knows why. Was it to sabotage Rex so have Woody allow him to bring in his own coach? Did he feel QB was the real problem and that drafting Geno and bringing in Garrard would resolve it? Does he have a 2-3 year plan that started with first rebuilding the defense (7 new starters) then the offense? I'm inclined to think it's the latter.
I like Rex and want him to stay, but if he is fired, they need to bring in all new coaches. Stop keeping leftovers from previous regimes. Blow it up. That said, keep Rex and fix the offense.
We've seriously lacked an leader on offense since LT left. Its not like these type of players have to expensive. LT was over the hill and basically took a minimum contract just to keep playing. Before him it was guys like Faneca, Richardson, and Thomas Jones. After that, there was a huge decline in the offense.
Not worth it in my book. We need those draft picks. Perhaps if we unloaded crap like Holmes, I would consider it.
Don't know how you look at that list of QBs and think any of them can do a better job than Sanchez. He is what $4 million in dead money - that can be split over two years which makes it minimal - can be signed for a 1 year incentive heavy deal and let the guy compete. In 2015 you go for a QB with an improved core of skill players to work with. Drafting a QB in 2014 and having Geno Smith or him start without doing a lot to improve the skill positions is just a waste of another pick
Bradford has average numbers and he plays in a dome -- now he has a reconstructed knee -- no thanks. Best bet is still to cut Sanchez after June 1, split his dead money over 2 seasons, and try to resign him. Still not going to be too much money and allows the team to have a veteran on the roster next season while they integrate new skill players.
To who? You aren't going to get a franchise QB in 2014. They can't draft a top tier QB and bring him on to a team with no skill players just to have him get destroyed for a year. They won't admit that Geno was a complete bust that quickly judging by this season. What Sanchez gives them is a veteran option, that knows the offense, that has won in the past, and that will probably come cheap with the opportunity to start. Who else can give him that? You are looking at an Alex Smith situation ... one year to prove yourself and after that good luck to you.
Sanchez doesn't know the offense any better than Geno right now. Sanchez needs a change of scenery and both parties just need to split. Obviously the cupboard is bare in terms of available QB's but then again they're available for a reason. If a Cutler or Schaub is available you have to take a look at them. They may be flawed but either guy is an upgrade over what we've had these last 5 seasons. And for every Alex Smith you have 100s of QB's that prove themselves to just suck.
