Hypothetically, Tom Brady is on the trade block.....what would you give up for him?

The age is a factor and I'm not sure how large his contract is.

It would be interesting to see what QB would get the highest return on the block. I would assume it's the younger QBs on their first contract in the post Bradford era of contracts.

RGIII was I think swapping 1st, 2 extra 1st, and a second rounder before he played a snap of football. I would say for most teams, Brady is under that except maybe for a team that is in the playoff hunt, but not in the SB hunt if that makes sense?

I don't think a very bad team would trade a ton for him because of his age and he might retire by the time you improve the rest of the team (which you can't do by just trading for him) and I don't see a very good team trading for him.

EDIT: Heh, I never answered the question. For us maybe a couple firsts, but it would be a very shortsighted plan and if we don't win a SB and miss with Brady we are left with a team very devoid of talent because we traded first round picks for him and missed and he's old. It's not really building for the future, it's building for the now and hoping like hell you get a few breaks to win a SB and appease everyone. If you miss, you set your team back

Now? probably a couple of 1st rd picks IF we feel we have a team around the QB that can compete, knowing what we know now if it was 10 years ago I'd trade anything to get the best QB of this generation and a top 5 guy all time.

At this age? A 3rd rounder. I'm more of a younger fan, so I can wait a couple years for the team to make a run. It's not worth it handing out a bunch of picks for a 1 or 2 year rental and possibly a SB. Those picks would mess this team up even more and make the Patriots' reign possibly continue.

I wouldn't give up anything for him. If the Pats had him on the block and were willing to trade him to an AFC East team that would tell us volumes about where his skills were. Like Joe Namath when the Jets let him go to the Rams in 1976.

    Brady is great, no question.
But I think Bellichick is the reason the Patriots keep winning year after year.

I think this is backwards. Belichik was 5-13 as head coach of the Pats at the moment that Mo Lewis took Drew Bledsoe out.

really? I would happily ruin the team for the next 10 years if I got a SB during my lifetime - still I would be much happier with it being a homegrown player - I just couldn't support a Brady led Jets team in the same way and it would not really feel like a true Jets win.

Na I wouldn't. Like you said, I would want a honegrown player to take us there. One SB now wouldn't be worth ruining the team for years to come IMO. Actually, if it was just ruining our team for a couple years, I might consider it. The problem is that not only are we losing valuable picks for years to come, but the Patriots would get those picks and they would have a very good shot at continuing their years of dominance another decade. I'm still very young, so I'm trusting in the organization to bring the trophy home in the upcoming years.

i've been following this team now for nearly 30 years and they haven't really shown much in all that time so, yeah, if I could enjoy a SB win I would take it

    Who, me? Delusional ??? :drunk:
I guess next you'll say that Brady is a better QB than Mark Sanchez.

Seriously, every year, Bellichick manages to patch together a good defense out of a bunch of unknown newbies and pick-ups.
Also, Bellichick is one of the best coaches that I've ever seen at making halftime adjustments.

Well you are saying that the reason the patriots keep winning year after year is because of Belichek lol The reason they keep winning year after year is because of Tom Brady, not Belichek. A hall of fame Quarterback (if not one of the best all time) fell into his lap and he has been a "great coach" ever since. Not saying he isn't a good coach, but he is given way too much credit for the patriots success.

I think Bill is a very good coach. Look how the offense has transformed from when he first had Brady to the Moss year(s) to the two TE years. He's been able to tweak the system so it always plays to Brady's strengths as he gets more experienced and older.

The defense has always played well, the kicking has always been reliable, and the ST almost always reliable. The place where Bill struggled is drafting defensive players, specifically the secondary.

Bill is also very good at pushing the rules (sometimes getting caught) to always give his team advantage and even forcing rule changes at times.

Obviously having a HOF QB has helped him dramatically and the early SB success has given him a lot of leeway in his decision making and risk taking, but in my eyes he's done a very good job as coach. Even though it was a weak year, the Pats went 11-5 after their HOF QB went down. Bill had the team clicking. How many times have we seen our starting QB or another teams go down, and that means our or their season is over.

Same here. Been a fan over 30 years and at this point, I'd take 10 years of futility in a minute if it meant a SB in my lifetime.

I'm in the "Jets are always on the event horizon of a dynasty" mode. What's frustrating is watching it get ripped apart by age and injuries.

I really thought we were headed that way after 2002 with Chad and he just fell apart when the o-line became problematic.
