Im from the tri state but I chose Jets over Giants because I though the whole "big blue" name was lame, the color blue is lame, and the Jets just appealed more to me and I dont regret it at all.
My grandparents randomly gave me a leather Jets back when I was in high school. (I live in Califronia). I started following the Jets and it was the 1985 season when we went 11-5 in the regular season. I was teased mercilessly for two years for being a Jets fan but we put up solid wins and made the playoffs in 85-86. Ever since then it is always nice rooting for the underdog because each special win (like against the Saints) is just as much fun as winning the superbowl.
Don't know, it just felt right. I'm not a big "jump on the bandwagon of the best team" kind of guy. I think that if you suffer with a team it means more when you finally win.
Tristate here but I was always an odd duck. Back in the 80's when the Mets/Giants were the absolute shit something about them and their fans rubbed me wrong. I went with the Jets because nobody seemed to like them and I was a sucker for an underdog. The Yanks however caught my eye when I was clicking around the dial back when I was a wee lad of 7. I hit on WPIX11 and they were showing a DP replay. There was this guy playing way, way, way , WAY off the bag. The ball was smoked and was surely heading into RF down the line. This guy back handed the ball just before the grass pivoted and gunned it to second and then made it back in time to make was stretching grab that was almost a split on the return throw for the DP. Even tho everybody in NY probably knew who this guy was at the time I didn't know who he was or who the Yankees were, but I was hooked from that play on. Everybody I knew at the time(my family) seemed to hate them so that was good enough for me Excuse me for my headlong dive into a question nobody wanted answered.
