The Patriots are going to be our biggest opponent in signing Reed.
The Broncos are in it too but Jets/Pats are the neck-and-neck here.

I would think the Broncos would be his first choice.
Best chance to end his career with another ring.

That's the #1 reason why I'd like the signing.

I doubt that he would take much playing time from Allen. He'd be in on obvious passing downs as the 3rd safety, which Rex loves to play. More importantly, he'd be huge for the locker room.

Only two problems I see would be the Broncos or Patriots offering more and he goes there, and second, what number would he wear.

Having Reed play the deep center field when Rex goes to a 3-safety look, which he does fairly often, would be great. Rex would find a way to scheme for him that would bring the best out of him and put him in a position to succeed

I wouldn't expect him to come in and be the starting safety, but to come in sub packages. One thing we've seen out of Rex is his ability to bring in some veterans/injury concerns and get the best out of them (Trevor Pryce, Kellen Winslow, Laron Landry, etc.)

    also, theres this.... (from 2011)
"[Ryan was] like a dad, like a brother, man," Reed told Werder. "We wanted Rex as the head coach in Baltimore. We did not want him to leave. It hurt when he left. We knew he was a great coach. There was a reason why that defense was the way it was. I would play anywhere with Rex -- in a dark alley, on the street, in high school football, sandlot, anywhere -- because he makes it fun. He loves this game. He truly loves this game and there’s a reason why those guys in New York back him the way they do.

Sorry, I think we shouldn't sign him. He looked slow as heck last year and I doubt he has improved. I think he is washed up.

If John Idzik doesn't know how important leadership is down the stretch, maybe Rex can tell him all about 2011.

I don't think Allen has played badly at all, sometimes those PFF rankings are head-scratchers, although they're pretty dead on more often than not. And there's no question the Ed Reed we're getting is a shell of the player he used to be. Rex has earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to bringing in defensive players. I have no doubt that if anyone could coax another year of solid production out of an aging veteran on the defensive side of the ball, it's Rex.

we need this ball hawk, even if he only makes a few plays, i'd put my money that this guy will make THE play when it matters. Plus this is a young but talented defense, veteran leadership would help a ton

Surely Rex can come up with a package that utilizes 3 safeties?

He is a ball hawk..plain and simple. Those that love Allen...etc..this guy is a ball hawk. Its our biggest weakness back there.

This is no brainer...even if he is a situational safety..you go for it. You go for it that this guy has another 3 or 4 big picks left in the tank. He doesnt? big deal. Anyone satisfied with our db's and safetys turnover ablity...I mean come on...just do it and go for it.

Rex has used multiple packages with 3 safeties typically 3rd int he box/vs te's hb's this is a majority of what allen has done for us. Its a 335 two man under look with allen simulating the 2nd ilb.

Question. If Reed is a Jet will Kyle Wilson give up number 20 for Reed?

so who do we cut to make room for REED? I personally do not want to lose young talent.

I would hate to see Reed take playingtime away from Allen. Allen was a LB in College, and looks like he´s getting better in Coverage every week. Let this Kid develop, and we might look at a Beast, and as good an Answer as there is für Gronk, Graham and those other freakisch TEs.

If we get Reed and let him share Time with Landry, im OK with that.
