Thru 9 games: My picks 1) Mohammed Wilkerson Pro Bowl Lock 2) Nick Folk Pro Bowl worthy 3) Harrison Pro Bowl worthy Honorable mention Sheldon Richardson
Nick Folk. Jets are probably 3-6 tops right now if he misses a few FG's. 18-23 (above his lifetime percentage coming into the season) could see the Jets at 2-7 if they were the right 5 misses. The Jets have only won 1 game this year that wasn't decided by a 6 point margin or less. They've won 3 games decided by a FG or less.
The whole D Line is the MVP thus far into the season. That's what an impact unit looks like. Imagine if we had some real playmakers on offense. We focused on building the D line the last few drafts. This should be a lesson and the Jets should be focusing on rebuilding the offensive skill players after this season. Then this team will have a chance to be good for a long time.
I'm not sure he's MVP material yet, but the way Antonio Allen is playing he could be in the mix at the end of the season, VERY impressive YOUNG player.
I think the lesson is you can win lots of football games if you're good in the trenches. The Jets still have some work to do on the OL. I also don't think it's a coincidence that with a big body at TE we were able to get our running game going outside. Cumberland and Winslow being absent yesterday may have actually helped us. They are both worthless in the run game.
are things better?? Last season, the unanimous and really ONLY choice for Jet MVP was Robert Malone, Punter
He's certainly been impressive, but he's still clearly a #3 CB. Makes too many mistakes still. But considering what we've asked him to do, he's done a great job this year. If you can win the battle in the trenches with just your d-line, you force your opponent to become one-dimensional and can drop enough guys back in coverage that the opposing QB will have a miserable game. While we give up a lot of passing yards per game, we are actually 11th in yards per opponent's attempt. We clearly suffer against the dink and dunk offenses which really there's not much you can do against it. Teams have passed 348 times against us, 4th most while only 211 rushes against us. That's some made respect for a bunch of guys who are practically all rookies.
and I wish Malone was back. Quigley is struggling. But if I can nominate anyone Id nominate IDZIK. The man knows talent and our roster is getting infused with some good looking receivers and a TE who could help down the stretch. When he was hired the knock on him was his ability to evaluate personnel. I strongly believe that is NOT a valid criticism.
He is the starting Strong Safety, not a CB, and I think he has made a tremendous jump from his rookie year to this year.
Regarding the OP, while I would say Wilkerson is team MVP so far, Folk has to be a close second. You simply cannot play his position any better than he has.
Wilkerson is unbelievable.. If he can stay healthy through his career, he could be one of the greats. He moves like he is 270 pounds.
I confused him with Walls. I don't hear Allen's name much but when I do, at least it's positive. He's no Troy P but he's doing his job.
Quigley gets more air on his punts and is a much more effective directional punter. He doesn't have the leg Malone has at times to boot it 60-65 yards but he can kick it where he wants to more times then not.
that is why Quigley is fine. He kicks the ball higher and can aim it better for the sidelines resulting in way less return yardage than we had last year when Malone was booming them long and low down the middle of the field
How about David Harris? the guy IMO is having an excellent year, perhaps his best yet, and his tackling has been superb. He jacks dudes up.
