This what we have.... 1. Jets 1st 2. Jets 2nd 3. Jets 3rd 4. Bucs 3rd (or a 4th - compensation for Revis) 5. Jets 4th 6. Jets 5th 7. Compensatory 5th 8. Jets 6th 9. Compensatory 6th 10. Compensatory 6th 11. Compensatory 6th 12. Jets 7th Nice amount of picks  That Bucs 3rd will be as good as a late 2nd rounder
The Revis pick will probably revert back to a fourth since IMO they will have fired both Schiano and Domenick, be in full rebuild mode after their 2-14 season and release Me-vis Schwartz, Feinsod and Uncle Sean before day 3 of the 2014 league year to avoid their holdout for a bigger and guaranteed contract and save cap And at lesst 2 of the 4 comp picks will be 7s Still a nice haul for Mr Idzik to work with Sent from my BNTV400 using Tapatalk
This is somewhat inaccurate. The 49ers have drafted very well outside of the top 10 over the last 5+ years. That's why they are where they are. 2005: Frank Gore on the 65 ( this was a huge pick for the 49ers and has been the stabilizing pick on their offense as they have gotten better.) 2006: Vernon Davis on the 6. 2007: Patrick Willis on the 11, Joe Staley on the 28, Ray McDonald on the 97, Dashon Goldson on the 126, Tarell Brown on the 147. 2008: 6 pick wipeout draft similar to Jets 2008 draft. 2009: Michael Crabtree on the 10. 2010: Anthony Davis on the 11, Mike Iupati on the 17, Navarro Bowman on the 91. 2011: Aldon Smith on the 7, Colin Kaepernick on the 36 2013: Eric Reid on the 18. If you keep finding multiple starters in the draft and do not miss on your 1st round picks very often the team will improve and that's what has made the 49ers great over the last few years. But... The Seahawks blow them and every other NFL team away over that span. They have found Pro Bowl caliber players deep in the last several drafts and have suddenly burst onto the scene because of that. 2009: Max Unger on the 49 2010: Russell Okung on the 6, Earl Thomas on the 14, Golden Tate on the 60, Kam Chancellor on the 133, 2011: James Carpenter on the 25, K.J. Wright on the 99, Richard Sherman on the 154, 2012: Bruce Irvin on the 15, Russell Wilson on the 75, You know what, I'm just going to stop looking at their depth chart and making matches at this point because the hits above are enough to make a team dominant.
The 49ers had 4 picks in the top 10 between 05 and 011. The Jets had 1. When you suck, which the 49ers and Seahawks did you get better picks in every round. We have had 2 picks in the top 10 since 05 the 49ers have had 4. They have been in better position to trade up or down as did the Seahawks. The NFL is set up to reward teams that suck, it works. Now that we suck we had a pretty good draft just like we did in 06.
Yes, but neither of those teams is built around those top 10 picks. They're where they are right now because they hit on a lot of picks outside the top 10. The Jets are where they are right now because they failed to hit on a lot of picks outside the top 10. Most teams with a top 10 pick just buy themselves another top 10 pick a year or two down the road. Since 2009 basically the 49ers and the Seahawks have avoided that trap by picking very well outside the top 10.
It's not just the 1st round. These teams that suck pick at the top of each round. It has a cumulative impact. It also has a cumulative impact on their decline if multiple picks are good within a small window. They have to be signed to second and third contracts.
My post count is too low to start a topic so I'll just park this here, the Ravens just cut Huff and Spears. Huff is an upgrade over Landry and Spears could be useful on rushing downs.
The 49ers and Seahawks are finding better players in the top third of the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds than most teams are finding at the bottom third of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds respectively. That's why they've caught up to the top organizations. They're just drafting lights out wherever they happen to have picks. This has nothing to do with them being bad and drafting high in rounds. it has to do with them being very good at drafting recently.
