A big effort next week would likely propel us to the playoffs but 4-5 is not killer either, it would just require us to be very good the rest of the year. The 09 team was 4-6....
It comes down to us beating Oakland and the Ravens, who we NEVER beat... lets hope for a split with Miami maybe 1 or 2 more wins and if we get lucky we might come out on top of a few tie breakers... not that making the playoffs will matter much.
We are not as good as we think we are. Lucky wins and lucky calls have propelled us into the limelight which quite frankly has flattered us. We are NOT a PO team and nor will we make the POs. Some of you need to take off the green shades and realise exactly what and where this team is right now. Rex isn't fighting for his job either, because this will be the next series of threads to appear like a rash over the net. Time to wake up
We are not a playoff team. But we can get better each week by getting younger players more experience.
We're not a million miles off making the playoffs, but I suspect we won't make it this year. If we can find a way to get to 8-6 we have a great shot to close it out. However! That isn't the most important thing. The most important thing is that we continue to develop, get better and identify where we need strengthened. We need to shake off the question marks.
Playoffs....... "We're not a million miles off making the playoffs, ......................" Maybe not, but we are certainly 20 or 30 thousand........
I hate to see sarcastic comments here. Nobody is saying Jets will make the playoffs. This thread is for checking AFC playoff picture week by week and see how the Jets look compared to other teams. 4-4 means Jets are a mediocre team. Not elite but not scrub at the same time. 7-9 to 9-7 is where Jets will land realistically. I don't think this will be enough for the playoffs but nothing wrong in discussing possibilities.
The fact that after 8 games the Jets, who were picked to be a laughing stock, is even in the discussion - and legit at that - to get the 6th seed is a nice thing. Who wants to root for a team and spend November and December waiting for baseball season to start?
Ya we got our asses kicked but if we beat the Saints we still have a shot to lose in the first round of the playoffs. Cincy is a good team but most of the AFC is as mediocre as the Jets. And the Saints are not the same team on the road outdoors. We have a decent chance to beat them and win some other games against a weaker second half schedule. In the mediocre AFC we still have a chance.
i must say it will be the ultimate slap in the face if the giants come back to life and compete for the division while the jets slip up in the second half and do not contend for the post season.
The remaining schedule after NO is actually not too bad. Every game is winnable, it's just a matter of which Jets team shows up. The team that worries me most on that list is Carolina. The Jets finishing 10-6 isn't impossible. Whether it happens or not is another story.
This is the hardest thing to gauge. It's almost like flipping a coin (well technically it is up until this point w-l-w-l, etc)
