Anyone who says they'd rather have Ellis over Abe is only fooling themselves. Maybe he was a bit of a jerk, but you know what, Abe was a hell of a player for us. Best defensive player to suit up for the Jets in many years. The only reason Ellis was ever able to generate substantial sack totals is because Abe was lining up with him. Ellis cannot shoulder the load on his own. He may be fine against the run, fine as a supposed 3-4 end, but when it comes to making an impact and forcibly disrupting the offense he really does suck. For his name never to be called during the broadcast is an embarassment.

    finally someone with some knowledge.

Everyone here says Ellis job is not to get sacks but then talk about his 11.5 sack year.

THen they say he isn't going to get them in a 3-4 but can't explain why he had 2.5 last year.

Lets get real he is a below average de getting paid like a top 10 player

Where were you yesterday? Ellis was applying pressure in the second half, he can't do it all alone.

Abe wouldnt be a 3-4 end he would be a 3-4 linebacker.Ellis was a product of abe being doubled, yes he is a very good player but hasnt really been pass rushing threat since 04.

This girl comes out of her closet after every loss. Last year she brought up the same BS, it's as if one training camp Ellis didn't give her an autograph and he has a personal vendetta towards him, lmao.

Look, she tries to stir shit...But again, Ellis' job is to occupy blockers, which he does, the 3-4 is made for the linebackers as we all know. Unfortunately our "clogger" DeWayne doesn't even occupy 2 blockers since teams do not have to put 2 blockers on him...Put Moore at NT.

Ellis had 8.5 sacks and 53 tackles as a rookie playing the 3-4 DE position despite having only 2 starts. So I don't want to hear that the 3-4 DE excuse. Also, just because we have a 3-4 base, it doesn't mean that we stay in that scheme exclusively. There are plenty of times when Ellis gets opportunities to rush the passer on the edge. I'm not going to bash Ellis; I think he is playing well. However, with the tyoe of money he is making, it's not crazy to expect more producation. The same goes for Robertson and McCareins.

mccareins looks like a good fit as that 3rd receiver, although i would like to see some more brad smith and (when healthy) tim dwight in there

Signing Ellis over Abe was the very best move. If we were unable to keep both, he would be the guy I would want around. He is not "AS" dominate as Abe, and can be inconsistent at times, but even with the inconsistency he is still better then 60% of the leagues DE's.

If you kept Abe he would be on he bench more than half of the season, and there would be no Ellis to bail us out. Ellis is a good DE, and is a good fit for us. He is in a 3-4 now, and gets double teamed constantly. If you dont think so, then open your eyes when you watch the games. D. Robertson needs to step it up, but is a little undersized. He is getting dominated in the trenches.

If anyone needs to be "Looked" at, it would be D-Rob. He is overpayed, and undersized. NT is a concern, not Ellis.
