This is a great article. Thanks for posting!

I really hope Ryan gets an extension at the end of this season. You can do it Woody and Idzik!

Interesting how ALL media was against Ryan a few months ago, trying to find anything to embarrass him or make him look bad. Even calling for his head.

Now not even 2 months info football and suddenly Rex is a defensive genius who is "saving the NFL"?

    Bullsh*t

Same goes for Cimini who was the biggest Jets hater these last 2 years and spent 90% of the space in his articles insulting the Jets and flaming Ryan.

W/e... Good for Ryan. He is a great defensive mind and deserves acknowledgement.

But really, what do you expect the media to say? The best HC in the NFL runs a circus and must be fired???? That was so last year haha.

The thing I like about this defense is that it is built for December and January. When the run game becomes more important we will thrive even more. I hate the cold but it cant come sooner as a Jets fan.

Not really a great article. Rather disappointing, actually.

The headline indicates his defense is saving the NFL. How exactly is it "saving the nfl?" A Few other teams are having success with his system, I guess, but that's about the only thing you can take away from this article.

No real hard football analysis other than just ONE example : he disguises his blitzes. Which is like "Rex Ryan for Dummies".

I expect more for the Wall Street Journal. I'm not going to say it was a great article just because it's positive. It was rather weak, actually.

I agree, everyone on this board knows he is a good DC, but it does not garner a contract extension, most teams actually run the Dick lebeau version of the 3-4 not the Rex Ryan version. And those that don't run Dicks 3-4 use a 4-3. I would love to see how many 4-3 teams have won a SB vs the teams that run the 3-4 in the past couple if years.

And the best thing about Rex on Sunday? For all the talk of his 'exotic blitzes', he seemed to keep a lid on it compared to recent weeks. NE didn't fare too well with the third and longs.

I think his point with saving the NFL was meant to mean with all of these 48-45 games...there are a few teams that can still play defense...and that part is correct. While many love the scoring...there are many that would still love to win 17-10 any day of the week. I think thats what he meant. I totally agree with you...horrible explanation of where he was going with this.

I think the best thing Rex did was taking the advise of his players and lowering the volume. Many players felt that by lowering the nonsense...you take the bullseye off you week in and week out. I totally agree with this.

If you have to fight 2 guys..same weight....same height...you have a much better chance of beating the shit out of the one that called your mom a prositute then beating up the one that brings her flowers....if you get my drift.

I love the new Rex. Quite and carry a big stick. Its working out much better...much better.

    We need a poll

Before the end of this season the Jets will extend Rex Ryan's contract with a big salary jump for

    A) 3 years

    B ) 5 years

    C) 7 years

    D) more than 7 years

Interesting read, what it means is that, as a defensive coordinator, Rex would be great for us.

Just imagine if they put Coples full time on that front four..I think he might be better suited for that than a OLB.
