Shaun Ellis is paid like a top de and he is invisible in most games, he is average against the run and gets absolutely no pass rush. how much did we sign him for? 6 or 7 million dollars to be invisible
Many of us said at the time that we should have resigned Abraham, myself included, and let Ellis go. Ellis had been coming off a monster year, but every other year he was ridiculously inconsistent or just simply non-existent.
I said from the beginning that we should have signed Abraham instead of Ellis, Abraham does get hurt but when he plays he completely dominates, I can't think of one game where Ellis has done that. we are definately missing a pass rusher in this defense and they are one of the hardest things to find.
Ellis dominated in the Pittsburgh playoff game when Abe was on the bench like he is now. Abe also turned down the contract that Ellis signed.
he dominated the Pittsbugh game???? I don't think so. and Ellis didn't get double teams at all yesterday he just disappears for games
Ellis is playing DE in a 3-4 now, so he is getting double teamed a lot... Abe would have been just as ineffective as a 3-4 end. Abe is a better player, but he wouldn't sign the deal, and he is always hurt.
I remember when Ellis and Abe were competing for sack leader. Now that Abe is gone, Ellis needs to get that back.
Ellis Carried the Jets Defense against Pittsburg while Abraham sat his contract-year ass on the bench. They made the right choice.
Ellis' contract was originally offered to Abe. Abe turned it down because he wanted more money. The Jets then offered the same exact contract to Ellis.
You also said that the Jets should have signed Abraham instead of Ellis, and the fact is that they tried to do exactly that, and Abraham wouldn't sign. Bradway made lots of mistakes, but you can't blame him for that one.
Last year Ellis was poor. However, this year he is playing much better. In case no one is watching, he is making tackles, and getting hurries on the QB. What more do you want from a 3-4 end? As has been explained ad nauseum on this board, a 3-4 end is not responsible for getting a shitload of sacks. They take up the blockers for the LBs to get the job done. So far, it's been working. Have you heard the names Hobson, Barton, Vilma and Thomas the past two games? I'm pretty sure you have. Sounds like our front 3 are playing a bit better than anyone seems to want to give them credit for.
they could have offered Abraham more money if that was what it was going to take to sign him. we have two of the most overpaid lineman in the league in Ellis and dewaste of a pick robertson
alio you are a fool the pats ran for 140 yards yesterday the linebackers did not play well Ellis had on pressure the whole game and a few tackles I don't think you watched tha sam game that I did!!!
No need to call anyone a fool.Who would you guys insert there instead of Ellis,? .Instead of pointing where the holes are, how about solving it.We are rebuilding. We will be lucky to win 5 games. However if the team plays with heart like they did in the latter part of the 3rd quarter and the 4th quarter, then that is fine, we still need talent and good players at several positions on this team, be patient.I think we are headed in the right direction.
He's actually the only lineman this year that has done very well against the run, and pass-rushing is not his job.
