1) The Team did NOT quit. 2) The WR's are playing much better than anyone could have reasonably expected. 3) Pennington took some big hits, but stayed mentally tough 4) Nugent vastly improved
I have to agree on all of those. Thought McCareins had a quietly solid game to compliment the bigger threats of Coles and Cotchery.
how can you say Nugent had a much better game. He made one field goal and his kickoffs were all short
I really liked Nugent's kickoffs and a clutch field goal. Also, thought the defense played very well in spots. Especially during the initial run in the second half.
how can you like Nugents kicks the land at the 7 or 8 yard line and are low kicks, in two huge drives during the comeback the Pats started at the 30 and 40 yard line
I saw some talent in Cotchery. Now we are seeing that talent mixed with quiet confidence. I like him alot.
I guess you are right that Nugent improved but so what, he had one of the worst games a kicker could have last week so he had to improve this week
I'm glad that we didn't give up. We need to apply more QB pressure when our opponents have a third and long. 5 seconds and more is way too much time to expect our secondary to cover all available receivers.
Did we watch a different game?? He had a touch back..one two yards deep...another to the four...all with great hang time. The one poor one he kicked was his last one that they returned to the 29. Not exactly an awful start ing position for a bad kick. But hey...if you want to just look for negatives from him every week then go right ahead. I suppose his 42 yarder was not up to your standards either considering it never left the center.
You realize that the one touchback that Nugent had(and even this one only went into the middle of the EZ) was because of the roughing the passer penalty on the Cotchery TD and he was kicking 15 yards closer, correct? Meanwhile the Pats rookie kicker was consistently booting the ball into the EZ and the Jets would start around the 20.
I am glad someone else saw his kickoffs. Even last week he was kicking off to the goal line to 5 yard. Unfortunately the kickoff team allows the runners to get to the 30 yrd line on the returns. Mentally for him to come back the next week and hit the 42 yrder was huge for his head.
I agree - and win or lose I’ve been having a blast watching the games so far this season. I know it’s early and don’t truly expect much this year but just seeing positive progress with the team adds a certain element of fun to it.
It's not just about how far the kickoff goes, it's about hangtime. A liner to the goal line is not good. Speaking of kicking, how awful was that halftime kicking contest? That's what they come up with to entertain the fans?
I like the late season punt catching contests. You're assured of having at least one and usually two drunks that can barely remain upright and will take a few tumbles trying to backpedal for the ball. Juvenile as it is this never fails to amuse me. But yes, yesterday's halftime show was awful, especially that troll that thought she was being cute stretching and mugging for the crowd.
I want to add that the run defense really came together in the second half. The Patriots were running at will in the first half - and of course the improved offense of the Jets helped the defense get some rest and be sharper in the 2nd half. The Jet run defense looked very tough until the final series of the 2nd half. The other thing I'm very positive about is the aggressive play of our DBackfield. Not only under Herm, but under so many previous Jet HC's our DBacks have played soft. We've been known to allow too much cushion. Not anymore! Dyson - Rhodes and company really are aggressive and I love watching them!
I agree with all but the first one, you're not supposed to quit. And definitely Pennington, he took some huge hits and kept getting up--O'Brienesque almost. As long as he learns to fall right and slide when necessary, he will hopefully stay on the field for us.
