I agree but the season is already at a point that 3-3 is nothing that is gonna take the pats out of winning their 100th division title. The pats needed WR's just as bad as us and are 5-1.
tanny traded for older players who were in the last year of their deals ... we would control gordon for 2+ years we cant trade our comp picks and i doubt there are enough roster spots for all 12 picks (plus FAs) to make the squad i think the fact that we have tampas third (which will likely be at the top of the round, so pretty much a second) mitigates the risk id pull the trigger if cleveland was down for it
I say do it, sure there are obvious risks involved but thats why he's on the market in the first place He is a PROVEN talent, and that is more valuable than unproven talent. Yea we can keep all of our picks and pick a guy in the second but for all we know that guy is Kellen Clemens, Vlad Ducasse, or even Stephen Hill. Idk why some of u seem to think its guaranteed that if they are a 2nd rounder that means its a safe pick, Kyle Wilson and Sanchez were 1st rounders how well did that work out for us. Im not trying to be negative but proven talent is hard to come by so if he's producing already at such a young age i hope we do it, even if he is one suspension from a year long suspension. Von Millers in the same boat, wouldnt u trade for that guy... roll the dice.
I haven't read all of the previous posts, so this may have been answered, but there are 2 years left (and the rest of this season) on Gordon's contract, right? The thing that scares me is Gordon is one legal issue away from being suspended for the entire year, and for THAT I would not cough up a 2nd. Keep in mind a few years ago in the offseason we traded for a player that was one legal issue away from being suspended for the year. He was a #1 receiver at the time and SB MVP. His name was Santonio Holmes and we got him for a 5th rounder. Difference is I think he was in the last year of his deal then. With that said, I'd flip one of our 3rds for him (assuming Revis makes the roster next yr for the Bucs). 2nd might be a bit much for me.
From a talent and production standpoint Josh Gordon would easily be our # 1 WR and is young enough to be highly productive for a long time. A second rounder could yield a good player but the odds of getting a talent like Gordon with the pick are not good and we would have to wait for that talent to develop. Also, getting Gordon makes Holmes expendable giving us a lot of cap room to use on other players. Sure we take a risk that he screws up but the cost is low enough to make this one work for us.
Do this trade in a heartbeat. He is young, fast, big, strong, and can catch. The Jets have this, but you need to combine all our receivers to get it . A second round pick for a very good, very young player is worth it.
One difference is that the Pats have a future hall of fame QB and we have a rookie with less than half a season of experience. I don't think it's fair to make this comparison.
2nd rounder for somebody who has already failed multiple tests & next failure = 1-year suspension. If you think he'll get he'll stay clean then it's a great deal. However, Cleveland doesn't think he can, other-wise he wouldn't be on the market.
I cant justify the risk BUT every player on your team is only one failed drug tests away from being suspended at least 4 games. They're also one twisted ankle or one pulled muscle away. Every player on the team is only a little of this or a little of that away from being out of the game. Despite the rhetoric, Josh Gordon is really no different in that regard.
Let me understand this, don't give geno weapon to prove he is good but get rid of him if he can't prove he is good with the lack of weapon. Not cool!
