1st ROUND Marqise Lee WR USC I see it as a tossup between Lee and Watkins at this point, Watkins is probably a little more explosive, but Lee is just so fluid and smooth on tape , its hard not love him. Crisp routes, soft hands, and deceptive speed. Lee would do wonders for Geno and would give him a true #1 to throw to. 2nd ROUND Colt Lyeria TE Oregon Many know him as Bane, an outstanding athlete with good size and speed (6’5 250). Has lined up all over the field at Oregon, even a RB and is a good blocker. Winslow and Cumberland have played decently but Cumberland isn't a receiving threat and Winslow is damaged goods. 3rd ROUND (REVIS) Ka’Deem Carey RB Arizona Talented RB a poor mans LeSean McCoy if you will, Carey rushed for 1929 on 303 carries (a 5.9 avg.) and is off to another great start this year. He plays bigger and although he doesn't have blazing speed he is extremely agile and elusive. I think he would be a great fit in our new offense. 3rd ROUND Dion Bailey S USC After playing will LB in Monte Kiffin’s Tampa 2 defense last year Bailey is back at playing safety this year and isn't missing a beat. Already with 2 picks this year, Bailey is one the shining stars on USC’s struggling team. 4th ROUND Dri Archer RB/WR Kent State Another weapon, Archer is blazing fast, quick, elusive, a true specialist. His main position is RB but he can easily spilt out to receiver or even be used on special teams as a returner. I liked the way Powell looked against the Bills and also the way Ivory looked in the last game against New England but this team severely lacks speed and playmaking ability. More consistency and competition is needed in the running game. 4th ROUND (COMPENSATORY/LANDRY) Tre Boston S UNC Former corner moved to safety after his freshman season. Has playmaking ability and good size at 6’1 205, isn't elite as an athlete but overall is a very solid player. 5th ROUND Ronald Powell OLB Florida Former #1 recruit out of high school back in 2010, has had some injuries but has shown flashes of why he was a 5 star recruit. High upside why not just take a flyer on him. 6th ROUND Vic Beasley OLB Clemson Another pass rusher with high upside at 6’3 235 still has the frame to add more weight. But speed is his game. Beasley has already tallied 5 sacks through 3 games for Clemson. 6th ROUND (COMPENSATORY/KELLER) Seantrel Henderson OT Miami O-Line depth 6th ROUND (COMPENSATORY/GREENE) Ciante Evans CB Nebraska Fuck Kyle Wilson... 7th ROUND Jacob Pedersen TE Wisconsin TE depth 7th ROUND (COMPENSATORY/DEVITO) Beau Allen DE Wisconsin D-Line depth Couple Notes Im including some comp picks because we should have a plenty. I got an article, which you all can see below, that projected the comp picks we should have but its a mock take it with grain a salt nothings definite until those picks are announced. http://forums.jetnation.com/topic/110597-tracking-jets-2014-compensatory-picks/
This is an awesome mock, basically my best case scenario. Only thing I might change is that if it is feasible( which I think it might be) id like to get deanthony Thomas for the OW role. I read some bleacherreport draft stuff that suggests he could be as low as a sixth rounder so he could be in play where that kent state guy is and I've heard they are very similar players. But that chemistry from Oregon between deanthony and colt would be too nice to pass up.
Very Solid Job!! WR & TE #1 and #2 is ideal to help Geno. It's clear that we need another play maker WR and Cumberland is average, not an elite player. I"m a big Lee fan, you can tell by my avatar. I think Lee's stock my take a slight hit, cause he hasn't been putting up huge numbers like Watkins and Evans. If Rex continues to pile up a few more wins than expected, we will probably be drafting in the teens where I expect Lee and Evans to be available, WRs usually drop unless you're in the Megatron status. Lyerla is a great player, I went with Ebron, cause I believe he has a better chance of being available in Rd 2. Carey is a solid player, with breakout potential. Boston and Archer were in my mock and 2 of my favorite players. Boston is a physical player that can play man and has excellent coverage skills. I like the idea he can play multiple positions.
Good job I like it a lot. Lee would be huge for Geno's development. Also a fan of Lyeria and Archer. Very solid job for an early mock.
Lee is definitely the best WR prospect since AJ Green/Julio Jones came out, and be great in the WC offense. Actually reminds me a lot of Santonio Holmes, plus a few inches in height, plus not-being-a-headcase/locker-room-cancer.
Love it man. If I were to do a mock, it would look very similar to this. Absolutely love Lyerla- absolute beast and a mismatch all over the field (plus the nickname Bane is pretty awesome...). Im hoping the Jets come away with one of Lee or Watkins in the 1st, and then Lyerla would definitely be my 2nd round target as you have. I like Carey in the 3rd, and love Archer in the 4th. He is like a poor mans Tavon Austin- and we know this team loved Austin so I can definitely see there being interest in him. 4 legitimate weapons in Lee, Lyerla, Carey and Archer is exactly what this team needs. Sign me up.
I'd like to cut Sanchez, Holmes, and sign Orakpo and Byrd to go with this I think we would have a really good team if so. I really need to reiterate though I think this is a great mock, nice mix of stars and depth. We can only hope the draft goes something like this!
Thanx guys all the feedback is appreciated, this took me awhile to do even with it being early so early in the process. With school and all i dont have that much time for draft stuff anymore like when i first got into this board. If we can end up with at least have of these positions id be happy. I just want to see this team more than anything, im trusting this regime to get this shit right.
Great write up, thanks for sharing. By the way, you guys think we may really get a 4th round comp pick for Laron Landry? Man that would be freaking huge if we had 2 3rds and 2 4ths on top of all our other picks. Things are looking up, thats all we can ask for is hope.
Yeah I agree. I truly think after this years draft with all it's picks and hopefully good free agency( idzik is known for liking to build through fa) we could have playoff hopes. And by 2015 deep playoff hopes, after allowing geno and this years rookies 2 years to develop and next years having a year under there belt as well, with chemistry finishing up. And I don't know about anyone else but I want to keep Rex. He really is a genius defensive mind and everyone knows the sayings about defense. I'd like to hear other opinions on him( HC position as a whole) too if anyone feels so obliged
I can see a 4th rounder for Landry (3rd round is unrealistic), the others around the 5-7th round pick range.
Its just a guestimation, but it largely has to do with to the contract Landry signed, i wanna say it largely has to do with a players contract, but have no idea how much snaps, awards (pro bowls) have to do with the way comp picks are handed out. Its pretty much a secret that the NFL has been able to keep under wraps for a while now.
Something I actually think would be good that we could do is trade back into the second to get Craig Loston from lsu. One of the best safeties in the draft and dawan could mentor him into a really good nfl player. And if we signed jarius our secondary would be insanity.
This would be a great draft for us (though I cant see Rex waiting until round 4 to get another defensive player!) We really need a clear #1 WR more than anything else (assuming Geno continues to improve and is seen as the future at that spot).
I love the philosophy of going heavy on offensive weapons at the top of the draft - I hope this is exactly what the Jets do. I'm not clued-up enough to comment on the actual players mentioned, but the philosophy works for me. However, I have a feeling we need an o-lineman earlier. Maybe the Revis 3rd-rounder could go on that? A solid guard would be a wise investment, I think.
we just took 3 guards last april, i think its time to go OT. like the offensive tone for next years draft - i just hope morhinweig is still around to groom it.
I think Blackmon on the field and Michael Floyd are better prospects than Lee but Lee is good too. Don't know if Lee can be a No.1 in the NFL, might excel as solid No.2 WR though. Lee is suffering from playing with trash at QB which is why his stats are down. Might be a top 20 pick, never thought of him as a top 10 pick from the games I have seen of his. I'll be shocked if Archer lasts to round 4 btw....he might be a late round 2 pick. If we want him, we'll have to get him before round 3 I feel come April unless he just racks up some bad injuries. I expect him to dart at the 40.
I like the draft, minus Tre Boston. As a Carolina fan and season ticket holder, I'm tired of seeing Tre "Smoke" Boston. He can't cover anyone. If an opposing receiver is wide open, it was most likely Tre's responsibility.
