with all three backs healthy, we probably should have cut alex green instead of spadola ... but im not losing any sleep over jets fans' latest terry conklin
If Geno keeps developing then putting some good young play makers around him is probably a great idea. Getting a LT to play LG for a few years and then take over from D'Brick wouldn't be bad either.
Good point. I don't see the real service Green will give us from here on out, but I guess they fear Ivory/Goodson might need rest as the season goes on or whatever.
You guys have my respect! Jets are to be feared - I didn't realize Wilk was such a beast! We have played 4 teams so far that have a winning recor at the moment and have (as of now) one of the easiest remaining schedules on paper! I'm looking forward to a race! I am glad the bye week has come - our defense is banged up. We were down 5 starters by the end of the game against Baltimore.
So for whatever reason (maybe he looked better in practice or was better on STs) they chose Campbell over Spadola. And like another poster said they can always sign him off the Fins PS. Everyone seemed to equate him to Wayne Chrebet and we know what kind of player he turned out to be. He suited up for 3 games and dropped one pass. If you watched that play he separated, made the catch and then after getting hammered by the defenders dropped the ball. No reason to get benched and then cut but for whatever reason he was.
Ivory just can't seem to get healthy at the moment. God forbid, but Goodson still isn't fully fit either. They had no choice imo
"The situation brings up memories of running back Danny Woodhead. In 2010, he was cut by the Jets in Week 2. Their hope was to re-sign him, but he landed with the New England Patriots, where he became a valuable contributor. He now plays for the San Diego Chargers." Hmm, I wonder why ....
People are questioning the wisdom of our coaches, who a few here got really really wrong with that one. Every time we get a smallish white WR out come the Chrebet comparisons , do we do that every time we sign a black WR. It's tiresome. Until a member of the CS comes out and gives an explanation all we do is moan about the loss of the great white hope. THE bloke didn't want to stay either
True enough, but compare that to Hill who has been given time to develop. He has bobbled more balls than a dollar hooker but is starting to emerge on the other side as a genuine threat as a WR. I don't know where his upside will stop, maybe he will never become a truly stable wideout, but he is pretty good right now. My point tho is that if we had only given him one real game situation to prove himself he would have been cut as well. OTOH, this is the nature of the NFL. I am not suggesting giving Spadola the ball 100 times.... But a couple real game touches might have been a better metric IMHO.
Spadola is 6'1", over 200lbs, has sub 4.5 40 speed, and runs good routes for someone of his limited experience. so this notion of small unathletic white guy, which is continually brought up here, is without merit at all. he has the measurables and potential talent you look for in a UDFA. That said, eff him. He was offered practice squad here, and turned it down for practice squad of divisional opponent. he's part of the enemy now.
I've often wondered why folks come into a thread clearly labeled just to chime in with "who cares" then declare the thread's end. Is it that difficult to NOT click on the thread link? Maybe some Jet fans actually DO care. And perhaps would like to discuss it somewhere. Like maybe an internet fan forum. Just a thought. _
I think the Jets signing of Greg Salas off the Philly practice squad tells us all we need to know about how they felt longterm about Spadola. w/ Gates out for the year they could have signed Spadola off the Miami PS but chose Salas instead.
