The point I'm trying to make is, should a rookie QB feel pressure? Yes. Should a rookie QB that was drafted in the 2nd round fear for his job on every single pass he makes? I don't think so. If Rex's job is on the line he has every right to pull Geno at any moment. While Geno isn't a 1st round pick, he is still a 2nd rounder. You can't put a 2nd round draft pick on a short leash, he needs time to break in. If Geno was drafted in the 5th round I would have no problem pulling him now. 2nd round picks are valuable and he deserves to be treated like any other rookie qb who was a top pick. Its not beneficial for him to be under high amounts of pressure in his 5th game, it will effect his play on the field.
Quoted for truth. Rex has kept our defense strong and that is really his only asset (dont get me wrong - that is a great asset). However he is not much to write about as a HC in other ways. If our defense slides Rex should be fired.
I could not be more glad that Todd Haley did not come to the Jets. He did an awful job in KC and is going to get run out of Pittsburgh. Anyway, keep Rex.
PLEASE KEEP REX, this team will go down the shitter quicker then you can whistle Dixie. AND I for one don't want to have to face him.
I agree with this post. I don't see why we don't just extend Rex. He is a good coach overall. Who else are we going to get? I'd prefer Rex over an unknown. And guys like Cowher aren't coming to coach us.
What's putting Rex on the 'hot-seat' is Geno's performance, but, as I stated many times , once Geno is placed in that position, Rex is also putting himself under the micro-scope. As any QB, where Geno goes, so go the Jets. You can game plan all you want, and micro-manage to your football hearts content but it all falls on Geno's hand to give the Jets a legitimate shot to win. Rex's D is keeping them in games close enough for MM and Geno to make something of it....that's what matters at this point. It's not Rex's fault that Geno got thrown into the fire. Yes , Rex put Sanchez in when he probably should have stayed on the bench, but hey, this is football and injuries are just part of the game. These incidents can't be predicted. My prediction is that this team will continue to have it's ups and downs .....Rex will find a way to get this team near .500.......and will have his contract extension in his back pocket when all is said and done!
Funny how everyone just assumes Rex is 'desperate' to hold onto his HC job with the NY Jets. He'll always do his best to win games, and he won't let the door hit him in the ass on the way out....he'll already be somewhere else by then.
this is pretty much my thinking on it - the whole "rex is coaching for his life" is a media nonsense and if he did get canned then he would waltz into another coaching role without any issues so its not like he is going to be too stressed one way or another.
Rex is signed through the end of next year. If Idzik decides he wants to hire a new HC Rex will be paid this year and next by the Jets. I don't see that as a big pressure deal. Rex will be set for life and be able to pursue a HC job anywhere, college or pros or he can move back to being a DC at big money. Pressure is feeding your family flipping hamburgers.
He's also going to have major opportunities to be a talking head if he wants that. I think he's going to work out for the Jets but he could just as easily be a color guy for Fox or CBS or ESPN without breaking a sweat. That color guy would also be one of the best defensive analysts who has ever worn a headset.
Ryan has as much security as any five year coach has. Don't win significantly this year and he's probably gone. I like Ryan as much as any coach the Jets have had but if he'd of put it together it would have happened by now. The GM will want his own man and Ryan isn't it.
So basically what your saying is that the Idzik will throw all the defensive accomplishments that Rex incorporated to make the them a top 5 in the league out the window because he didn't get them to the super bowl? Don't think so. Defense is what wins championships, always has and always will be. Remember one thing, Idiz came in with a HC already in place with the mindset to make D his own in order to give the Jets a way to make the games close.....until Geno finds a way to over come his rookie bone-headed mistakes, don't think another head coach will come in to make things better..
Here we go with the Rex doesnt do anything for the offense bullshit. Ill ask one more fucking time if anyone here can tell me what Sean Payton and Mike McCarthy do for their defenses and how their involvement in their teams is any different than Rex's aside from specializing in opposite sides of the ball. And please cite your sources.
Who would have had more success (and is available) than Rex with Mark Sanchez as their starting QB? It is the GMs job to get the players and the coaches job to coach the team. The failure to bring in a good QB is on Tanny not on Rex. The failure to bring one in over the off season is on Idzik to a very small degree (I say that as we are still hamstrung by Sanchez's contract until after this season)
So Rex would be okay with Geno turning it over three times a game and throwing away a season if he had 'job security'? BS, Rex wants to win. Besides, the patient approach really worked out well last year with Sanchez, didn't it? People wanted Rex to hold Sanchez more accountable, now he's holding Geno accountable and it's somehow wrong. If anything the injustice was that Geno was foisted on him, I think if Rex had his druthers Sanchez would have started the season (he wouldn't have played the fourth quarter of the third preseason game) and Geno could have sat and learned like he was supposed to, but instead we're ruining Geno the way we ruined Sanchez by throwing them in the fire too early. And he probably still resents having to throw Geno out there cause Simms is the better QB right now, but the GM's more or less dictating moves.
