So far this season, I have heard how much stronger the NFC is than the AFC. I figured it would be interesting to track how the conference's do against each other. I just looked it over and after 2 weeks, it's 5-1 AFC over NFC. This will probably change a lot, but so far that preconceived notion isn't panning out so well.
Fins have a great shot at taking down NFC SUPERPOWER Atlanta this week, they are down Witherspoon, Jackson, and Bierman while allowing Matt Ryan to take alot of hits over the past 2 weeks. I hope our secondary is full go because while Roddy and Julio were injured last week, they are still crazy good. Plus, our inability to cover TEs could haunt us this week.
I've thought about that a lot as well. Thru 2 weeks, it's an NFL record for games decided by 7 or less points. So it's really too early to tell as you said, but I still believe the NFC is much stronger.
NFC has more powerhouses. Seahawks, 49ers, Falcons, Saints, Packers. I wouldn't be surprised to see any of these teams in the Superbowl. In AFC I can only see Broncos and maybe Patriots in the Superbowl and that's it.
This. C'mon byz, it seems pretty clear that the NFC is topheavy with the STRONG teams. While anything can happen, How many teams in the AFC you really think have a shot at the VLT? One (Denver), possibly two?
I never said they weren't. That's definitely the way it appears. Appearances don't always prove out as wins, though.
No one thought the Ravens were better than SF last year. Its too early to say only the Broncos can win a championship.
In my eyes, it looks like: DEN, NE, HOU vs SEA, SF, GB, ATL, and NO. Everything else is pretty even, both conferences have mediocrity and bad teams riddled throughout, but the NFC has a few more top tier teams, and even being an NE fan, at this point in time i'll admit most of those teams with the exception of HOU have a good chance of knocking us off. For whatever reason Houston hasn't been able to score on or stop us from scoring the past few meetings. Peyton also still has a lot of trouble knocking off NE, so NE could very well be the AFC's SB team come February, but whether they have the firepower to knock off the NFC teams is another question entirely. I'll say overall I do agree that the NFC is a bit better right now.
SF, ATL, GB, and SEA all played AFC teams too so some of the stronger NFC teams from last year. ATL and GB lost road games in the final minutes, SF was man handled at home, and SEA got to play JAX
I'm honestly surprised that the AFC is so much stronger than the NFC this year. Only 5 NFC teams have greater than a .500 record. Compare that to 6 teams having less than .500 in AFC.
