Interesting article about the current status of Geno Smith. Nice to see someone breaking down the flaws in his game currently. Obvious rookie mistakes that will be fixed over time.
Good stuff, but pretty clear, even to the naked eye. I still am not exactly sure why he got so frazzled in the 4th Quarter. Not like the Jets were down 33-10. It was 13-10. He did not have to do too much. Just play it smart. In fact, Marty deserves just as much of the blame, as he was asking Geno to make plays A. he couldn't make and B. did not have to make at that time.
Probably had something to do with WRs dropping so many passes, making him more nervous to throw the ball so much.
Two words: Bill Belichik. He's made more rookie QB's suffer in the second half after making some adjustments than anybody else currently coaching in the NFL. Dick Lebeau gets second in that category and probably Rex third.
At that point it was nice and surprising to even still be in the game. At the start of the season if you'd told me the score at full time, I would have been very surprised. The Pats are still arguably the best team in afce, but for me a team also in transition, like us. So are the Bills and Phins. I like where we are in this first season (rebuild) and think this time next season things will be very different. Geno will settle down, he's an intelligent player who can make adjustments, rookie mistakes.
Belicheck?...please...I just watched the 4th quarter again. Geno made three bad throws...two of them were in the awful category. That's what lost the game. We shoulda been running the ball. The line was doing a good job and Powell and Bohanon should have been pounding the ball. We would have easily walked away with a win. The loss is on Marty's shoulders.
Absolutely .... Belechicken deserves about as much credit for those interceptions as I do ... Those were 3 LOUSY passes, that any decent college teams should have intercepted ...
That's funny. Geno's only sustained TD drive came in the 2nd series of the 3rd qtr, AFTER Belicheats so called adjustments. FWIW, Geno's TD drive was the only TD drive of the game.
I like Marty a lot. That being said, that was on Marty. After pick one, pull the kid aside and tell him to throw safe passes. Give the ball to Ivory. I here Saints fans still complaining about them letting Ivory go. We have him......now lets use him.
Been talkin about his footwork since his pro day... Too wide and not fluid at all. I like his instinctsbut he really needs to work on those feet otherwise his career will be real short
Because a 13-10 is a lot more pressure filled than a blow out. All of the sudden you have to worry about making a mistake, trying to be too perfect, and not costing your team the game -- he failed.
I think he got frazzled because no matter where he threw the ball, the receivers were dropping it. He tried to force it to make up for that, and unless you're brett favre, that doesn't work.
I agree. If Gates catches those two balls, Geno has 2 TD's and would have boosted his confidence tremendously. If he did catch them, we would have definitely ran the ball more with the lead and he would have avoided those interceptions.
