    Geno

I never seen a game of his in college, but I know it couldn't as bad as he was in the preseason, or should I say I hope his play wasn't as bad as the preseason, I know its early and Tampa Bay was giving the game away from the start, but Geno showed at least for now that he can and will find away to make a play and take a hit
    but good post

I was thoroughly impressed with how he handled the adversity. I really hope we have something here.

    Geno! Geno! Geno!

Lets not crown him anything yet but thank god he showed this. Lets not make this guy out to be Ak. Smith or Quincy Carter....that is just disrespectful. He's got more talent and commitment than those sorry bums.

Lets throw that Air Raid bullshit out of the window too. Got his yards off bubble screens? Hah. He was underutilized in WVU.

He had an actual deadly running game and good if not great OLine working with him.

Geno did not get that. Far from it in fact. Bucs D is also MUCH better than what the Texans D was. That Texans D was laughable and came under fire until Phillips took control of em 2 years later.

the biggest thing is he's not an athletic QB but a mobile QB

he wants to throw but can eat up 7,8,9 yards to get 1st downs

He's got the potential to be an Aaron Rodgers like QB(he studies him)

Geno by year 3 should be amazing

Deja vu? How many of these Sanchez threads were made in the past? Now all of the sudden the Bucs are the best defense to be faced? Yeah if this was the 49rs or Seahawks then make this thread. Sheesh how long before smith just sucks threads?

Wow Nostradamus how about the kid play a season before putting the horse before the cart. Remember the Sanchez will be great in year3 threads

One thing he did that I really didn't like was when he turned what would have been a sack for a loss of 7-8 yards into a loss of 19 by running backwards so far. Hopefully he learned today at that point, just dive forward and get on the ground, take the sack but give up the least amount of yards possible. I did like how he threw the ball away a few times, the one time he spiked the ball to the ground once he recognized the defense sniffed out the screen, that was a heads up play (I remember days of Sanchez throwing the ball into the mix anyways and getting pick off by a D-lineman). I also like his ability to make plays with his feet, something that gets really frustrating for defenses, that really killed the Bucs tonight.

Overall, I'm still going to take it one game at a time, but a good start for now.

Both his preemptive criticism and hasty apology are premature.

It's week 1, aside from the draft, this is when the most premature assessments get made, people tend to forget that there are 16 games in a season.

potential, skill set, mental make up its all there

the key will be continuity in the coaching staff and Idzik putting the right pieces around him

the difference between him and Mark year 1 are so far in between I wont even get into it because you have no clue what the hell you're talking about when comparing him as a rookie to Mark

ah young Jeti. glad u see the importance of coaching continuity at this point..

and i agree with your earlier comparison to Aaron Rodgers legs... It's not Geno's forefront weapon, but the ability to gain 1st downs running as a back seat option cannot be understated. it's something the Jets have not had for a long time.

Geno wasn't great by any means, but he got the job done and didn't crumble after mistakes. This is why you don't judge people in the NFL before they've played a single regular season snap. Everyone who labeled him a bust and all that jazz can now eat crow. Enjoy the taste.

yeah man, his ability to keep plays alive and throw on the run is a dynamic we need with the streaky play of the O-Line

if Geno gets it down mentally...............watch out

I agree about continuity. And that's one reason I don't believe that Idzik definitely wants Ryan out. Idzik knows that it would hurt Smith's development to have a new system his second year. Also, a new HC would want a new starting QB anyway, he'd want to draft his own guy.

It's definitely huge when a QB can go grab some yards / a first down if the opportunity presents itself- that really helps keep defenses honest.

That poise is what impressed me...Even with 38 seconds he was saying to his team "lets go!"...He doesnt let the game phase him. I like that

That TD was Chansi Stuckey all alone with literally no one within 10 yards of him.

We still play the Steelers. That will be a much better defense.

I wasn't a fan of the Geno Smith pick because we had other needs, but if this guy continues to make plays and grows - I'll be more than overjoyed. He's certainty making a believer out of me. I still need to see how he does for the first 5 games at least though.
