Bart Scott, now a CBS analyst, had a few opportunities to continue playing, but none to his liking. Decided to retire. "That's a wrap."

I appreciated what Scott did for us these last 4 years. Good luck Scott. And I'll never forget his post game rant after they beat the Pats.

bart did some great things here in ny, too bad they never reached the big game. he was a beast those first two years here, and a real leader on defense.

Happy trails Bart and thanks. Love watching you giving it to Sal Palantonio after the NE win.

Always liked Bart. He's funny as hell, and one of a kind.

He should be hilarious as an analyst.

I loved the way Bart played in 09 and 10. It was the epitome of dirty work, and he was great at it.

But taking on guards and lead blockers in Rex's defense both here and in Baltimore took a toll on his body and he ended up declining quickly.

    Intense guy and great leader.

I hope he does well in his new career.

Bart Scott declined exactly when most NFL players do: as he crossed the 30 year mark. The NFL is not like baseball or basketball. It's so demanding on the body that just getting to 30 is an accomplishment for most players.

This is the primary thing that Jets have overlooked in their free agent acquisitions over the years. Getting a 27 or 28 year old player who looks like he's about to hit prime time is actually getting a player with a couple of years left and no real upside at all. Holding onto that player until he is 32 is a disaster but usually the contract he signed at 27 or 28 is going to mandate you do that.

There are a few exceptions to the rule, most of whom are megastars who break all the other rules also.

The years to acquire a potential superstar free agent are 25 and 26. If you can pull that off then you have some chance of getting a few really prime years out of him. Curtis Martin is the best example of this.

I think that they took a calculated and successful risk in grabbing Scott.

But in the same season, they should have drafted his replacement.

They took the risk and never planned for the predictable short term repercussions.

    Good Luck Bart. Farewell!

He didn't want to play for the veterans minimum when he was raking in the big bucks from the Jets.
